No upgrade options require root or have data / settings loss.
OTA is the slowly rolling out update which will eventually show up in the System menu, whereas Oxygen Updater will pull the same update from the servers pro-actively. It just depends if you want to wait or not.
Once you do it one way you don't need to nor will you be prompted to upgrade the other way, but it doesn't matter as they are the same update.
Moving from OS9 => OS10, I would recommend a Fill Upgrade (if using Oxygen Updater).
I used this method and I have a succesful upgrade with no bugs (I can use Google Pay, etc)

Updated to Android 10 for OnePlus6 using Oxygen Updater.

it updates automatically or do you have to move the file in some storage??
also which update did you choose full or incremental?

Oxygen Updater downloads the file to your device, then you use the system menu to load that file locally from where it is.
No need to move anything when using Oxygen Updater

The update will hit your device in a few days as this is a staged rollout.
If you are impatient then you may be interested in "Oxygen Updater" on the Play Store which can fasttrack the update to your device
    - This is what I used and it is fast, safe, stable and I can't see any bugs on my phone with the update

    Notch hiding is still available

Download "Activity Launcher" from the Play Store, search inside it for "notch" and open the only option in there which takes you to the Phone's notch settings

Just seems like an oversight in the settings, not hooking the Activity to the menu
