Knowing the hotfix patch is coming in the next three weeks, I decided to jump back on A10 to test the new RiCE build and make sure my information about substratum lite was accurate I had a couple of unexpected things happen along the way...sorry in advance for the long post:
First I disabled all Magisk modules in Pie and deleted substratum and RiCE 6.0 for Pie. I then loaded up A10 GM21AA via TWRP, reinstalled TWRP v70, and rooted with latest Canary (debug) version. I post this because a later screenshot will prove weird...
Everything booted fine, but I noticed I forgot to uninstall FNG and it asked for root access. I uninstalled FNG and just enabled the regular Google left/right gesture in settings (screenshot later shows why this is mentioned.) I re-enabled all my Magisk modules and added RiCE 7.0 for 10 and the module for my 4K video recording on all lenses.
I downloaded substratum lite and rebooted. Boot was fine again and I went into tweaking RiCE. Everything works as before with the exception of on the extended volume panel the phone volume no longer shows, but the important part is that the ring volume and notification volumes are separate in sound. All other RiCE tweaks work perfectly. This doesn't feel like an Alpha build...damn near release ready:
On to substratum lite theming- NFL fingerprint wouldn't load, so I just reinstalled the apk and it was fine. The animation doesn't work on 10, but the icon is perfect. Pitch Black kept crashing so I disabled the compatibility mode that lite suggested I enable during setup. I then went to Swift Black and it loaded fine. I installed overlays A10 system and for all the apps that don't have a native dark mode. I only added Google Canary to the list because I don't like its native dark mode. There was an error for 3 system overlays that I never use, so I didn't care. Reboot and:
Did you notice some good things about those screenshots? Of course you did. In the first one you can see how pretty the lockscreen looks with the Dallas Cowboy FP logo and no notification from @Georgeoneplus7pro! Next, in the third screenshot you see that Gboard is all the way to the bottom edge!!! I think this is because I had FNG still installed/enabled from Pie when upgrading. I'm not sure and I'm certainly not gonna update it via the Play Store (turn off auto-updates for the app) or theme it with lite! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!! Also, in the last screenshot, I love how Swift Black looks on Canary!!! I usually run a combo of Swift and Pitch Black but right now, Swift is all I need.
As I said before, I added the 4K video recording Magisk module an XDA member made off of my work. What I had forgotten is that I installed OP cam v3.8.69 in Pie. The module still works with this version, but you lose 4K recording with the telephoto lens. Make sure you're on v3.8.59 before upgrading to 10 from Pie. I'm not bothered by it right now, but I might try reinstalling the camera later:
Things I lost from Pie: Kirisakura kernel isn't compatible with 10 yet (as far as I know)
Things I gained from Pie: 4K wide angle video recording
Things normally lost in 10 that I have: Gboard is flush with the bottom edge by accident.
You see that RiCE reports that I have GM21BA installed, when I showed in first screenshot that I don't. Obviously gonna be cleared up with a later build.
In summary, phones bought from OP are completely unlocked. Take advantage of this and unlock the bootloader and install Magisk at the least and TWRP for good measure. Android was made for to personalize and with Magisk modules and substratum lite, great things are possible.
