Small correction, 2 years major updates and an additional year of security updates (except OnePlus 6, they have 3 major updates, because the 6T was shipped with A9).
Starting from 8 series, 3 major updates and an additional year of security patches.

    Cheers
    Tom

The point I am trying to make here is they are delaying this with purpose to sell their new series. All I am saying is there were times when OnePlus stood out from others in giving timely updates. That's the sole reason many opted for OnePlus. That wasn't the case nw. But you ppl are like "oh! Atleast they are giving an update, let's be grateful". Come on.

Atleast it's better than being mum and collecting whatever they throw.

No, cannot agree. The reason is that they have more devices to maintain and not enough engineers.
The OP3 had to maintained and the OP5. 2 series to maintain. Easy, only 2 series
Then came the OP6 series with A8 and the OP6T with A9 at that time the flagship, the OP3 was only scheduled for A9, but for the OP5, the updates for oth took already took long time. In the meantime the OP7, then OP8, Nord series, then OP9, now the Nord 2.
Currently they have to maintain all series from 6 to 9 + the Nord series.
As usual, the OP9 came out, loaded with issues. So, first fix this + the A11 update for the OP7, which was driven against the wall, OP8 must be also maintained, the Nord series not so much, and work on the OP6 A11 update.
I don't think this is on purpose, they are victim of the success and instead of hiring a huge amount of engineers, they tried to maintain this with a few engineers.
I do believe that was the reason why they merged now with Oppo to get the work done.
I cannot judge whether the earlier release of the OP6 A11 Beta is a result of that merger, I hope that the merger has a positive effect on the quality of the updates and maybe getting back to more regular release schedule.

    Cheers

You paid extra, for added RAM, storage, faster charging and a skinned version of OOS. You were not paying the extra for longer or better support (nor was it stated at launch) 🤷🏼‍♂️

It was a clean lineup untill OnePlus 7 series. 2 flagships per year. Then 4 flagships per year and the mid range and budget range. So if you have a vision to release more smartphones in a year, you have to plan the software schedule accordingly. When I was using OP3, I had zero complaints regarding software updates and that one aged really well. So wanted to give a shot with their "first premium" smartphone. So I spent almost double the money and struggling to get a proper software. So whose mistake is that. No, you can't give an excuse of releasing more smartphones for a bad software and delayed update.
