10.5.9 is not the same for all... 10.5.9 India is not the same as the 10.5.9 on International. The International one was the unintended camera update... 10.5.9 India an hotfix of 10.5.8.
To avoid confusion maybe it can be good if we talk region and not only numbers.

OP 6 and 7 just got May's security patch, while we are still with April. Weird that new phones don't get updates first...

Security level has never been a priority for Oneplus. When software has settled in and the new devices issues has been stabilized to a certain level you start to see bi-monthly security updates and eventually 1 system update per 1-2 months.

Ah. But does it go away and recover without forcing a reboot? Can you lock and unlock the device when it happens?
Easier to report it with a log if it does not need a forced reboot to continue working.

I'm currently logging and replicating some odd issues on my device. Even went on for 150h until I gave up and did a reboot. After some days I finally replicated some of the stuff with logging on 😋 Hoping to get a 8 Pro delivered soon... Delayed like forever.

BTW you might want to post in the 8 thread.

Yep, I noticed. It's one of OP's flaws that could easily be corrected...
But unfortunately, it's not only security updates: they also got super slowmotion and new clock styles

Some stuff comes to betas first and stays there for some time. Will be the same on 8 series when betas begin.
The clock styles recently came to 7 series beta one beta with a feature is often not enough. 960 slowmo on 7t series is interlaced and not real so nothing to get excited about really. If it was real 960 it would be a different thing.
Also all the new stuff on 8 series will not instantly rollout to older series (when hardware is able to do it). Some of them first in betas and som if older series ever gets 10.5.x. Or a more broader feature rollout when Android 11 comes.

Then they should start beta on OP 8. Because these new stuffs will be released (stable) on OP 6 and 7 first I guess. And an 2 years older phone receiving new features before their most recent phone is quite odd...

OnePlus didn't thoroughly check the update. No company is perfect but looking at the 8 series there have been a multitude of problems that OP could have identified during testing. Maybe they ought to stop releasing phones twice a year and focus in making one decent handset.
