I feel like OnePlus' development team isn't aware of the issue as it had persisted for over three months now. The only thing to do is roll back to 5.1.7 or use a custom rom

Why is there a big gap between the Icons and the bottom of the screen, this is for the OP 5T.
I think the Gap is bigger than the one in Oreo, 5.1.7.

Don't know if it's a big issue or not.

The last time I updated my phone with the new oxygen os 9 that launched for one plus 5 that ended up in corrupting the motherboard of my phone.
I am too scared to go with this or any system update that comes moving forward.

can anyone let me know if they faced any such issue with this hotfix update.

Yes, I am using the Navigation Gestures.

When I used them in Oreo, the difference wasn't that big, that's why I am asking.

download full rom and flash the zip file.
After that you need to clear data.

First disable the gestures and then enable them again. The gap is there to house you onscreen navigation buttons.

There isn't a place to enable and disable, you just have to choose from the 3 options in the Buttons & Gestures page.
I chose different options and went back to the 3rd option, and still the same.

Can you see the difference and the gap from the bottom of the screen. It's quite huge, looks like a bug to me.

This is another with the pill, and still the same gap from the bottom.

Maybe update oneplus launcher or force stop it. If that still doesn't work change your launcher or submit a bug report

One other issue if we can't flash a treble rom with twrp. We might be able to clean wipe then downgrade back to Oreo or use a custom Rom.
However what if we cannot reinstall any pie version through twrp. that will suck. Still undecided what to do. It would be good to know if anyone can ever flash 9.04 with a clean wipe through any version of twrp. And we need to know which one.
