OxygenOS 9.0.4 OTA for OnePlus 6T (T-Mobile)

@Manu j> I must admit (at risk of redundantly sounding like someone complaining with no suggestions), it is a bit concerning how far behind the T-Mobile updates are for the 6T.

    As of now:

    - Security patches are 90 days behind
    - RCS/texting is intermittently broken
    - The camera app is also underperforming (and several versions behind) it's unlocked counterpart.
    - Feature parity (via software) to unlocked devices is still not met

While exterior methods such as finding the latest .apk for the camera or the GCam mod are fine for the camera issue, I would love to see the updates on these devices catch up a bit.

I know there was a challenge earlier to help collect data for the RCS issue, but is there any other way the community can help to speed updates up for these carrier devices? I'm sure the avid enthusiasts in our ranks would be happy to assist.

To echo InfaMender, I would like to see the security patch get updated. Currently blocked on corp email because of it.

I don't honestly know why anyone who has ever owned an American carrier branded phone are surprised about the outcome of OnePlus and T-Mobile (USA). I wrote the following soon after the launch of the OnePlus 6T global model, when I could compare what TMO had demanded and omitted in their own ersatz firmware and it was blatantly obvious then what was going to happen...

"Updates are likely to be a lot slower to the T-Mobile (USA) variant as they will need to be adapted for and certified by the carrier first and we all know how well that works with other phone manufacturers.

So, whilst T-Mobile (USA) variant owners will receive a slightly subsidised phone it will not provide the stock OnePlus experience that the global model offers.

I predict that once some T-Mobile (USA) variant users realise this, there will be a wailing and the gnashing of teeth that we have witnessed over the years with other U.S. carrier models.

Bottom line... "If you want the full, unfettered, OnePlus phone experience... pay the full price and get yourself the Global model."

This is the price that most of the large phone manufacturers must pay if they want to release their phones through a carrier in the U.S.A. There are no other OnePlus carrier branded devices in the other 194 countries worldwide. Thankfully, there is at least a way for TMO users to convert to the global model, as 1,000's already have as the T-Mobile (USA) carrier minority variant has, I am afraid to say, become something of a joke in the OnePlus global community. :(

The only and I mean THE ONLY reason to get T-Mob variant was $300 credit for OG OnePlus One. Other than that, zero reason. Slow updates, locked to T-Mob network, single SIM slot, untimely security patches, bloatware apps that can't be un-installed and last but not least, garbage resale value. Go on Swappa or eBay, the T-Mob variant value dropped like a rock.

The alternative to everyone's camera woes can be easily fixed by side-loading the camera app to the newest version. I've done that and it works great.

Literally everyone knows that carriers are not great with software updates.

There are multiple ways to get the international version. Most of them require unlock but there's a way to get international software without even unlocking/rooting your phone.

If you really want, you can Google it and you'll find it.
Note: only do it if you think you are capable of following the steps and doing it...also you'll lose the RCS messaging.

My days of flashing and cooking ROMs ended around 2012 when I did full switch to the Nexus line. I flashed and cooked my own ROMs for years. I'm at an age and point where I want out of box experience to be what I need.

You can indeed! You need to go to settings > apps & notifications > all apps > camera

From there you need to tap the settings button at the very top right and select uninstall updates

Noticed this 10.24GB limit.... which I thought was 10MB.

Nonetheless, files are sent under 1MB, compressed to 600KB or so.

    also, settings states 10.24GB.

I also have noticed the compression even with RCC, thought this was the pain point RCC was going to solve.

Tmobiles Advanced Messaging has been around for years at 10MB. This Tmo RCS is laughable. 10.24 GB must be a typo. But this compression thing is frustrating.
