If you update with ota you will lose root and twrp.

    Download the update.
    Boot into twrp.
Flash the update DO NOT RESTART
Power off by holding the power button
When your phone restarts and you see the bootloader warning, QUICKLY press volume down.
Choose recovery to get back into twrp.
Flash magisk & reboot as normal

Flashing the official update loses root. You need to flash magisk to get it back.

If you don't flash magisk again you will lose root.

If you don't follow these steps you will lose twrp too.

Yes, it sure was. Within the initial stable release thread, it was mentioned and discussed numerous times.

This isn't News and has been known since the beginning of the OOS 9.0.X Android Pie 9 builds.

But the issue persists in current builds aswell right so shouldn't it be posted in every single thread until its fixed? Oneplus just can't assume that every single person has updated to the pie version and simply ignore their mess up. People do not read here I agree but reading the Beta thread for flashing the stable version doesn't make any sense to me.

Well it isn't news but have you seen a single warning in the stable release threads? How will people know that this problem exists if oneplus doesn't acknowledge it in their threads?

The problem is with your understanding, heating immediately after updating is completely normal the device has to do a fair bit of optimising etc that eats CPU cycles and generates heat, come back in a few days if it's still abnormally hot.

I advise not update cause in 9.0 5 still the "cell Standby" major bug : it's really a shame. I don't care about the August security fix, I just want a phone with a decent battery.
This starts to looks like programmed obsescence : 5 updates and still no fix : that's just crazy !
By the way, I reported another bug in 9.0 3 about video hardware decoding in certains apps (molotov, mycanal, 6play) : not fixed neither.
I was so satisfied by oneplus until 5.0.8, but now I think I will never buy their phones...

feel free to buy any other smartphone, plenty of ones to choose from.
And this update is the best so far on pie, never had so good battery life on official pie.
