You're braver than me, I wouldn't update any device without access to a pc, what if it'd bricked? Obviously had you had access to a pc you'd have backed up anything important.

    Thanks for sharing this.
although I have gone through this post before couple of times and also XDA, I'm waiting for OnePlus's own team to share some work done by developers.

    cheers!!!!

I may have some backup because this is not my primary phone for time being. buynot of the music which is the only reason I have my phone on vacation :)

But ever since I bought this phone, al updated went smooth. So being on vacation now I had no idea that it would went this bad.

oneplus has of course no interest in hearing the problems. As the phone gets no support any longer. But it has been stable as rock always.

not sure if it is hilarious that it went great for many years and the absolute last update broke the phone completely.

I had no access to PC. I just pressed update when it mentioned it on the phone that is has been downloaded and ready to install.

this was simple as big shame it went so bad :-(

but it seems that not many others had the same issue. That’s what I was curious about when writing the comment :)

I'm assuming that your bootloader is unlocked? If so everyone is in the same boat, as OOS pie has an issue with decryption of earlier builds, on bootloader unlocked encrypted devices.

I haven’t changed anything since I bought the phone. So unless one plus delivered the phone unlocked, then it else. Else it’s not unlocked :)

that’s why I’m surprised that the latest android updates should cause this massive destruction of the phone. For me very wired. It never failed and I’m not doing any things/installing anything that could break anything. But thanks for the explanation though.

Had you try to cancel the cache of the play store app?

Go to the drawer, make a long tap on play store app icon and select "info" from the menu that will appear, then go to "archive space" or something like that, now you will see two button, tap on "Cancel cache".

Another thing to do after an update is to clear the cache of all the system (you will not lose any app), to do this you need to reboot the phone in bootloader option.

I hope this will help you,
    bye

I had unlocked bootloader and encrypted phone, so to update to the latest OOS, I had to wipe the phone off. All done, restored. Happy this pain is over. System works fine without an issue just battery performance is reduced. Now, I am ready for custom ROM.
