    according to the OP:

"ANYONE can try this build, but please have in mind it won’t be available via OTA, you’ll have to download and install it. Unlike regular Open Beta builds, you'll get OTA updates for the future stable builds, as well as further open beta builds."

so for us that has the latest stable build, it is not required to wipe out data to be able to test this out.

but for people that are still on previous beta builds, not the latest stable build:

"Users who are still on OBT builds for 5/5T can update to this build only via update from recovery. For those, PLEASE NOTE, your entire data will be wiped."

    hope this answers your question.

Only thing that works is OnePlus's own Messages app. I think it might be a smsc number issue, but it won't let me change it to my carrier's number.

    Hi,

I am already on beta for op5t. Do I have to install beta for 10 through recovery mode or can I do it by download to root and install from local storage? kindly let me know.

Very similar issue here. Install went fine, any 3rd part SMS app does not work in one way or another, they all fail somehow. Only the built-in SMS app works. Tried clearing cache and data on all applicable apps, cleared cache in recovery, and then tried full factory reset, the issue still exists.

I think the sim card gets corrupted by the update - the smsc number doesn't seem to be updated in the Phone Information menu in the "secret" menu, and it won't let me update it.
