What's pathetic about UI and battery optimization improvements? I hope you aren't this unappreciative in your everyday life.

That would be the reason why. This is a beta update, and if you haven't migrated to this path, you will only receive "official" OTA updates. You can follow the instructions in the original post if you want to join, but keep in mind that it's main purpose is to assist in development of the OS, so if you don't want to report bugs, then I wouldn't bother with this.

As you should. That is the latest stable release, while this thread is about the beta release. You will eventually get some of these features from this Open Beta, in 5.1.3 (or whatever it will be next), and you can test them out and help make the process faster by joining the beta and then reporting bugs and sending log files. I stress that if you join, you should be reporting bugs, and not just enjoying being on the cutting edge of new updates. So you are welcome to update to this beta path, again, by reading the instructions in the original post, but just be sure to be helpful to the developers at OnePlus by sending them information about the issues with the OS.

Sure thing, and beware that this isn't as stable as the "stable release" (duh), so just be sure that potentially worse battery life, stability, etc is a reasonable sacrifice for reporting bugs and getting new features.
