I have no qualms in unlocking the bootloader. I really had no idea that it was so simple!

    A few more questions:
    1. Can I revert to OOS without hassle if I wish?
    2. All this involves wiping data right? Am fine with that.
    3. Do custom ROMs get OTA updates? I want a ROM with AOD.

That's great! Should I try one on my OP 6 ( daily driver)? How long does it take to install etc?

I ran it on my daily driver.

takes me about 30min from stock locked bootloader. obvs backup everything and remember you will need to wipe.

hit up XDA for the guides

    basically.
    install ADB and fastboot.

    enable developer options

    enable OEM unlocking

    enable ADB

    ADB reboot bootloader

    fastboot OEM unlock

then setup again, as it will factory reset. reenable developer options and ADB and boot back to bootloader

    download your ROM

    fastboot boot twrp.img

flash your ROM as per it's instructions (tresk is easy as gapps are included)

    flash twrp if you want

    reboot setup and enjoy

you can always revert - it's super hard to brick a OnePlus.

tool is called msmdownload tool it's on XDA and gets you back to a totally fresh OOS install with relocked bootloader.

yes some ROMs will do OTA. TreskMod does.

    And it also has AOD

This is what am bad at. Somehow, I fear I will mess up ADB...

    Also, don't understand fast boot.

Sorry guys, if I am rambling on in this thread.

get yourself to XDA. all the guides and files you need are there.

ADB is a 30 sec install you can't really mess anything up - you can do it! we all learnt at some point but maybe start a thread away from this before the mods descend!

Indeed! What I have done is not exactly according to forum rules.
Let me send you a PM.

Mods, my apologies guys. But at least this is constructive discussion as opposed to cribbing about updates. :D

As long as you take your time and follow instructions on xda carefully, there's really nothing to it.

Take time to read some of the posts in the thread prior to asking such a useless question

Can't anyone understand that it is pointless for OnePlus to put out more 9 based betas, when 10 is due soon. Their focus should be on getting Android 10 ready, and not just releasing updates for the sake of sticking to their schedule (which is only an approximate schedule and not guaranteed).

just chill out and relax and updates will resume when they are ready.
