Don't really know the used market. But I'd say no more than $500 / 500€.

    (It's worth more, though)

Yes, I know, but you probably get the same gaming performance with current gen parts at around $700 (if you go for a lower CPU). A 1060 GTX or a RX 480 should outperform the 970 while costing less and you end up with a platform that you can't upgrade any further.

But at around that price, I think it's a really nice purchase.

The new Ryzen might also be a great choice but still a lot uncertainty around it.

It looks promising, still needs a lot of game optimisations. And most likely the same for CAD software. Still a motherboard and cpu alone would have set him back about 350. And he would still need the rest around it.

Because by then you may have saved up enough to buy one, and a decent car too, instead of that overrated Hitler car :p

    Small update on my build:

    Final Specs

    • Core i7 6700k w/ Noctua NH-U12S cooler (TIM: Noctua NT-H1)
    • 2 x 8GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2133MHz CL14
    • Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
    • Gigabyte 1060 Gaming G1
    • 256GB Crucial MX100 SSD
    • 2TB WD Blue
    • Sound Blaster Z
    • Corsair RMx 650
    • NZXT S340 Black/Red with 2 x Noctua NF-A14 PWM on the front (filtered intake)
    Accessories:
    • Razer Blackwidow Chroma Stealth
    • Corsair m65 RGB
    • OnePlus Never Settle Mouse Pad (the smaller one)
    • Audio-Technica M40X

Finally dedicated some time overclocking both the CPU and GPU.

CPU is currently running at 4.5GHz@1.31V. Still deciding if I'll go for 4.6GHz since I'm still well under the 1.4V recommended threshold.

GPU is set for +100MHz on the CPU and +400MHz on the RAM, with +11% power limit. Still need to stress test the GPU but it seems to hover around 2075MHz under full load (it adapts automatically).
