mine case looks exactly like what you posted, minus the red filler/handle. mine is black there. i need to build a new one that can handle my LSDyna stuff. At work, i run it on HPC but hoping i have something at home thats capable but doesnt cost me an arm and a leg.

Last stable release was in 2015 ? o_O
It's either gonna run awesome or completely like shit because it cant use the newer hardware.

Can check how much your current hardware is being utilised by running your usual workload.

How many threads are being used , How much GPU / Cuda acceleration if any is being used.

There's not much I could find in terms of requirements mentioned anywhere.

let me know if anything here is useful/telling:

    #PBS -l select=1:ncpus=20:mpiprocs=20:mem=110gb
    #PBS -l walltime=200:00:00
    #PBS -l tokens=20
cores per compute node = 20

What's your current system specs ??

The fact that they have a 32bit and a 64but version that specifies Single and Double for the CPU , I'd assume this will work on anything.

Newer hardware will crunch through faster but you won't benefit from a huge number of cores I think.
But you sure can multitask better.

Well i run my LSDyna simulations on HPC at work. It takes about 20 hours to run a full seat crash simulation.

    At home:
    Asus Z97-A MB
    i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00 GHz
    16GB RAM
GeForce GTX 970 4Gb Video Card

IMO , you're at that point where you've got the most out of your hardware if you bought it new or at the time it was released....so... it's the perfect time to upgrade. ;)

Nvidia is recommended for Ansys....coz it can use CUDA acceleration. Quadros are recommended Doesn't say anywhere Geforce shouldn't work.

Ansys can definitely use the newer hardware and larger core counts better whenever you move to a newer software down the line.

    https://www.ansys.com/about-ansys/partner-ecosystem/hardware-partners/amd

High core counts should give you a lot more multi tasking flexibility.

Also....Ansys was "optimised" for Intel in the past so shit like this happens even in 2020.

    https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1468390

So....Ryzen 5000 + a Quadro if you can get one at a somewhat reasonable price even if it's last gen is what I'd go for or something RTX 2000 series.

Starting with the licensing terms assuming you're legally getting one. :D
Pricing / licensing tiers depending on how many cores you're allowed to use still exist.

    I think you jinxed it.

S.M.A.R.T. is saying the disk is about to die so I removed it from the system, I am replacing it with a Sabrent Rocket 1TB (gen4) next week. Which means my next post is my final build.
