Target audience would be everyone and especially the people that like privacy and independence.

Right now on a smartphone calender entries and contacts are stored in a google account and maybe a vendor specific second database.
Not always it is possible to store them on the device itself.

A lot of people use calenders from work, from their e-mail provider or a friends nextcloud instance.

I sync supporting the CardDav and CalDav standards to sync with instances outside Google would make people happy.
Interface for this doesn't have to be any different than todays calendars and contacts , just an additional bullet point in "where you want to store/get this data".

Right now there is only a handfull of third party applications that work more or less.
Some of them cost money and it always needs an addtional step for the users to make those work.
Native support for these standards would improve the out of the box experience of OP users and give an edge over the competitors which do not support those standards and sources .

    Great idea..!

While waiting try CardDAV-Sync free and CalDAV-Sync...
The work perfectly with Owncloud... ;D
And FolderSync Pro to upload files over WebDAV...

    Yep....
The should also add WebDAV support while they're on it...!
