#PMChallenge - Different privacy modes when your phone exchanges hands

?

How concerned are you about privacy when someone takes your phone?

  1. I ain't got nothing to hide.

  2. I generally don't have concerns but I like the option of being able to choose my privacy.

  3. I end up having to share my phone sometimes, and I need to be able to choose what comes on my screen

  4. I have EVERYTHING locked with 0 notifications. Also, I shoot people who touch my phone.

'Vibrate mode' and 'loud mode' came in at a time when phones were majorly used for calling. And now that smartphones encompasses almost every aspect of our lives from news to entertainment to productivity and business, we need something more than this.

    Who are the users?
How many times have we felt DREAD when you're asked for your phone. Maybe you laughed at the newest dankest meme and now your friend/boss asks to see it... For me, I don't like the possibility of a tinder/whatsapp/finance/personal app notification coming up when my phone is with another person. And sometimes I might not want to the other person to know that I use a such and such app.

Yes, you can change the app notifications options and pass the device but that is slow. And insisting every single time that you'll take a screenshot and send it over, or tag them, is suspicious even if you're just concerned for your privacy.

    What is the proposed function?
It's simple but effective. The user has the option to create multiple privacy modes. Each privacy mode can be customized to receive (or disable) specific app notifications. Additionally, to change privacy modes, a fingerprint scan requirement will ensure another layer of privacy protection.

And to make this as easy and accessible as possible to the user, I suggest having it on the notification layer when pulled down.

    What is the user value?
Every user gets a MUCH quicker and finercontrol over
    1. what notifications he/she wants at a certain time, as well as
    2. what is shared from their phone, with whom and when, and.

It means when I share my screen with my boss, I never have an embarrassing text from my gf. When I share my screen with my friend, I never have my personal finance notifications come up. When I game, I can choose to have a mode with zero notifications.

If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior?

I believe that a few gaming phones out there have a similar option only for gaming. But the my feature is superior because there are a huge number of users, who use their phone for a lot more than just gaming. This feature is another step towards making the smartphone an extension of ourselves than making it just another smart device.

We as humans don't blurt out everything we think. Depending upon the person we are interacting with, we filter and modify our speech. It's time we build that into our phones.

From here, you would have to use your fingerprint to open up the different profiles available (just like how you would select between the Wifi signals).

Additionally the 'locking certain apps feature' can be clubbed with this, with different profiles also having different apps locked. But personally I'm a fan of modularity, and like keeping things light. :)

I hope this was of use. And if you read till here, thank you. (Sorry, I don't have a potato) :D

    Hi there,

Just out of curiosity, how is this different from the Profiles option that already exists? There's even a guest mode.

From the look of most of these "privacy" features , these all are somehow related to hiding your porn collection and your dirty chats from others.

App Locker for the chats + Lockbox for the porn. Done. ;)

(For some reason, I always think it's about people hiding their affairs from their SOs)
