G_Rahul_Srivastava_XGXe, Feb 6, 2019 : Product Requirements Document for One Plus Oxygen OSWho are the users? Senior citizens. The growing number of senior citizens using the smartphones will be happy to see this new feature in their one plus mobile phones. What is the proposed function? Senior Citizen Mode. It is just like we change theme currently from colourful theme to dark theme. Similarly there will be a mode option in the settings to activate senior citizen mode (and of course to deactivate the same). What is the user value? Senior citizens will be able to use their smartphone more easily. Presently the screen layout, fonts, apps are designed for an average user who can see and hear clearly. But senior citizens can’t see and hear properly so their needs are different. Apart from this there are certain special needs of senior citizens which can be catered by adding some default apps of One Plus which can be used by anyone using the phone but especially when the phone in “senior citizen mode”. If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior? One feature is available via ‘big launcher’ in the Google app store where fonts and apps get bigger. That’s good but how many people know about that. Also this will only change the screen layout but not other features which are mentioned in this document. Be sure to:-Explain the logic behind this product and how you want it to be implemented. Logic behind this very simple. If a user of the phone is a senior citizen then he or she can activate this ‘senior citizen mode’ from the settings and the entire UI of the phone will change suiting the needs of the person. Needless to say that everything will be customizable so that the user can customize the phone as per his or her taste. Apart from this the screen fonts must be clear and big so easily readable, maximum ringtone volume, default vibration ON, maximum loudspeaker volume etc. Include directions and details via diagram sketches. Draw each screen and show the flow from screen to screen. Another options is that we keep home screen as is, rather change ‘shelf’ layout like this as shown in home screen layout image. Similarly, activating this mode will change ‘dial screen’ layout as shown in the above image. Similar layout can be used for ‘contacts’ app layout when opened. Changing layout is pretty easy, but the unique feature will be brand new One Plus Apps for senior citizens. Following are the list of apps which should be added to the default apps on the shelf or home screen: 1.Magnifying glass: this will use the rear camera of the phone as a magnifying lens and help the user see and read clearly. 2.Hearing Aid: this will use the phone’s microphone as receiver and amplify the ambient sounds especially the human voice. User can hear the amplified sound via the Bluetooth or wired headset. 3.Medicine Reminder: this will remind the user about the medicine with alarm. 4.News: this will give the brief news from the desired country or world (like apple news). 5.Emergency or SOS: this will send sms to desired contacts when tapped at least twice (like double clicking on the computer) to prevent accidental activation. We will use the following questions to scrutinize your pitch: From the Product department – does it contribute to a burdenless experience? Definitely yes for the target users – senior citizens. From the developers - how will different parts of the existing OS interact with this new feature? I don’t know about the technical stuff, but definitely new screen layout will be needed for home screen or shelf (whatever is better). Similarly, new layouts will be needed for contacts, app drawer, app icons, dial screen etc. Also, newer apps like magnifying lens or hearing aid need to be in sync with phone’s hardware compatibility with camera or microphone. From UX Design – what will the user experience be like? Does the current flow result in the optimal user journey? I am sure the target user experience will be totally new as most of senior citizens I have seen keep struggling with the smaller font size, smaller apps icons, compact layout, low ringtone volume, low speaker volume, and of course new apps like magnifying lens, hearing aid, medicine reminder, etc will surely help them in their daily life. Thank you.
