    TanviMathur, Feb 9, 2019 :
Have you ever been in a meeting in which a ringing phone created a slight distraction for the attendees, and a feeling of embarrassment for the one who’s phone was on loud? Have you ever come home from a long day at work, and realized after a while that you missed calls from your family since your phone was still on the DND mode?

How can we provide a better experience to users?

    Who are the users?
    1. Working professionals
    2. Students

    What is the proposed function?
Have a new feature called the “Work Mode” in which:

    1. The user can sync their location and calendar (compatible with Google/Outlook etc) with the mode they want their phone to be in

    2. The user can decide the following:
    A. The definition of busy/in a meeting/in a class:
    i. Busy only if he has accepted the meeting invite
ii. Busy if the calendar is blocked, even if the invite is not accepted
    B. If the user is busy at the time
    i. Switch to user’s Silent mode settings
ii. Switch to user’s DND mode settings
iii. Customize all notification settings like vibration, repeat callers, notification light, event reminders
    C. If the user is not in a busy at the time
    i. Switch to user’s Ring mode settings
ii. Switch to user’s Silent mode settings
iii. Switch to user’s DND mode settings
iv. Customize all notification settings like vibration, repeat callers, notification light, event reminders

    3. The user can switch on the “Work Mode” automatically based on the time set by him. The user should be able to define different time slots for different days of the week, this would help take care of more use cases like some professionals working on weekends, and students having classes only for half a day

    4. Another way to switch on the “Work Mode” automatically is to define a Work location. Every time the phone detects that the user has stepped into the Work location, the “Work Mode” is switched on automatically, and is turned off automatically as soon as he leaves the work location

    5. Settings 3 and 4 can be used independently, or together (to incorporate scenarios like erratic schedules and work-from-home)

    6. The user can configure auto-reply to messages, calls and emails during the busy periods in his day
    A. He can decide if the auto-reply goes only to selected contacts, or to everyone who tries to communicate with him
    B. He can have general replies separate from replies to selected contacts
    C. He can customize the response message to include his next free time, since we have his calendar details sync-d
Eg. if the user is busy from 2:30 - 4:00 PM, and gets a call during this time, the message can read “Hi, I am in a meeting right now, and will get back to you after 4:00 PM today"

    7. The “Work Mode” will also be present in the Settings menu and on the top-down slide menu on the phone

    What is the user value?
The phone syncs the user’s calendar and location and switches between modes seamlessly, also taking care of auto-replies during the busy sections of the user’s day

If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior?
Currently, OnePlus has a feature that allows the user to set the DND mode for a specific time duration. The proposed feature is better since it manages the user's preferances according to his location and calendar details, also
