    Who are the users?

This would be useful to anyone that hands their phone to someone else. But more specifically parents. Also could be useful for “tech challenged” family and friends.

    What is the proposed function?

The proposed function is an “enhanced” guest mode and if possible to allow for multiple accounts.

This function would allow the creation of an account on the phone that you were able to limit functionality. Block access to all apps, including built in, that are not whitelisted. Disable/Enable settings such as wifi, mobile data, in app purchases, and be able to have an individual passcode. Also allow for this this to be the default account on bootup.

This is not a true guest or second account but just a limited version of the master account.

This function might be accessible via the user menu but would be better if accessible via the quick menu.

    What is the user value?

Primary benefit to user is a quick way to hand the phone off with pre-determined limited functionality. Example, hand phone off to a child that has access to only the 4 games they are allowed to play. Then had the phone off to a second child with access to a different set of apps.

Secondary benefit is to setup a phone for an older child or tech challenged family and friends that has access only to the things they need. Example, buy a phone for a family member and set it up then via the enhanced guest mode limit access to the phone app, contacts, camera, etc. but not to app store, settings, etc. This could be marked as the primary boot-up account.

If there are existing comparable functions in the smartphone industry, how is your proposed feature superior?

Yes, the first is Guest Mode. The key ways this is different or superior is that it doesn’t create a new account; it limits access to the “master” account. Also that it allows “persistent” multiple accounts.

Yes, the second is 3rd party apps. First one that comes to mind is Mobi Lock. This feature would be superior due to the fact it’s part of the OS, it’s easier to switch back and forth (no having to choose what launcher is default) and would allow for multiple accounts.
