Hello fellow OnePlus 7 Pro owners!

The OnePlus 7 Pro is the first OnePlus device with a pop up camera. Although it's super cool and is an easy party trick, the pop up camera on the 7 Pro makes face unlock just a little slower than on the regular 7 or on previous OnePlus devices. Another disadvantage of the pop up camera could be the durability of the motor.

First of all, how do you even enable face unlock on the 7 Pro? And what kind of options are there?
Well, face unlock is actually really easy to enable. Just go to Settings > 'Security & lock screen' > 'Face Unlock' > Enter your PIN/password/pattern > Add face data > Go through setup. Once you have finished adding your face data, two options will come up: "Swipe up to unlock" and "Auto unlock once the screen is on". The first option will require you to swipe up on the lock screen before the camera will pop up. The second automatically pops the camera up when you turn on the screen. The second option is faster, but will use the motor in the pop up mechanism more often.

Now let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of using the pop up camera for face unlock:
    Pros
    • Works even when your finger cannot be scanned (i.e. when wet or dirty)
    • Could potentially be easier to unlock with in some cases
    • Looks super cool
    • Will impress your friends : p
    Cons
    • Does not work very well in dark environments
    • Very hard to use when you're trying to unlock your phone from under the table at school : D (i.e. when you shouldn't be using it)
    • Can cause the pop up camera's motor to wear out more quickly
    • Can be slower than using the fingerprint sensor

So my question is: Do you use the 7 Pro's pop up camera for face unlock?

I'd love to hear whether or not you guys still use face unlock!

Oh this can be interesting, thank you for the thread/poll.

Maybe people can also add a little paragraph saying why the use it or not.

Anyways, curious to see the results.

I used face unlock once on 6t and the camera lens cracked.

Jokes apart, interesting discussion. I don't have 7pro but if I would, I won't use face unlock.

I initially set it up to use face unlock, but after some more use I changed my mind and turned it off. It was quick, but I didn't want to add extra stress to the pop up camera, as the fingerprint sensor is fast enough for me.

I feel exactly the same way! Even though I rarely ever use the front camera, I don't want to put any unnecessary stress on the pop up camera's motor.

I wasn't intended to use the face unlock function, I really love the fingerprint scanner! I think the under screen scanner is way cooler than the pop up camera.

OnePlus 7 Pro ordered. I don't plan to use face unlock because I fear the camera might popup while the phone is in my pocket and be damaged.

Stopped using it from day 3.

    Here's why:

    1. Puts undue stress on the camera (pop-ups) are still new and will need to be cautious with moving motor parts.

    2. Frequent use (without the need to click picture) will lead to dust accumulation faster. Don't want that.

    3. The fingerprint reader is actually quite fast - I don't feel the need for an alternate method.

    4. Last but not the least, novelty/show off fades away fast ;)

I knew there is face ID unlock function before I even got the phone and I already decided not to use that function when I get my phone because I like the fingerprint unlock more and don't feel the need for another way to unlock the phone. if my fingerprint doesn't work sometimes, I can just enter my password. I really don't see a need for face unlock... I personally would swap this function with wireless charging because I wanted to buy a car holder before that had the wireless charging function, and that felt very useful when in the car, linking Bluetooth and also having GPS on, especially during long road trip, the wireless charging functionality can become very handy.
