If its the hardware, then for sure no firmware update will be able to do much about it.

In tests between my "old" 7T Pro and the 8 Pro I found that in general pure receive power as well as signal quality is pretty comparable, actually. This is under pretty constant, medium to low level signal conditions (for me: at home)

Where the 8 Pro is really loosing it is with variable/fluctuating conditions, especially when combined with weak signal levels (for me: at work)

This behaviour leads me to believe that it can actually be improved by firmware updates.

    Just my 2 cents ;),

Same here (Belgium Telenet), poor signal with 4g (-114dBm), however much better when using 3g (-92 dBm).
This with firmware 10.5.6. Hope they can fix it with a new firmware.

Edit: and even much better signal with only 2g. (-82dBm).

Yeah... I actually mailed their support about it. The answer I got was along the lines of "impossible, it's probably your SIM card, ask for a new one and if it isn't resolved, change provider". I sent an answer explaining that I live about 300m from the actual celltower (even sent them a picture of it taken from my door). Also said that I lived here 5 years and that the last 2 years I've had perfect reception with my Galaxy S9+. Putting the sim back in there all problems go away. They didn't even bother replying anymore! What a bunch of arrogant pricks.

Install any app on both phones that shows serving site id such as G-Mon Pro, make sure that both phone on the same cell id or frequency band before judging signal level, sometimes newer phones could support more bands and these bands could have less coverage; network engineers could make network settings in such away to instruct newer phones to select certain frequency bands thus lower signal.
Make this first before judging the signal and return the phone

Same on an OP8 much weaker signal than OP6 and call quality is noticeably less good.

On May 3th I wrote about the poor signal with my provider Telenet (Belgium).
Since May 26th I've changed to provider Proximus, and have way much better signal strength with 4G activated 97 dBm 43 asu.

So it might be provider related or bad sim.

I have the same issue in France with "Free mobile" carrier.
My OP5 get full LTE signal. My OP8pro get only 10 second the LTE signal and goes back to 3G... Of course i did the test with the same carrier at the same place without any bumper for both of them.

I hope it's not a remake of the iphone 4 antennagate...

Just upgraded from OP6 to the OP8 Pro and also experiencing a noticeable difference in carrier and wifi signal, hoping they work out a solution as I am considering going back to my OP6 at this point.

Yeah, I have T-Mobile, in the US.
    If I enable 5G, it's bad-news, the "5G - LTE fallback setting" doesn't, I get about 1/3 fronthaul, and almost zero backhaul (0.0-1.0mbps).
If I disable 5G, entirely, 4G/LTE works similarly to my previous OP7 Pro.

Pretty sure OP and the carriers have a LOT of coordinated work to do here, still. I'm actually seeing a 5G-indicated, when this happens, but if I check the "actual signal", it's NR 0 dBm, for the 5G radio, so yeah...

I've changed from OP 5T and it was not an issue there. With my 8 Pro I get constantly sms for missed calls and can't use my 4G sometimes for bad signal strength I guess. I hope it will be fixed soon or I'll have to return this phone as this greatly effect my daily usage.

Is it your provider? I had problems with a previous provider when I had my one plus 6 and discovered they removed their nearby tower...

I've been facing this same issue since switching from OP 5T where I've had no problems what so ever to the 8 Pro. when will this be fixed? what's the resolution? I've paid $1000 for a phone that doesn't work. This is unacceptable!
