I had some old samples but I deleted them cuz they were shit.

Do you have samples (used on people)

    Sure why not.
First lemme tell you that I'm not a pro, I'm something between a hobbyist and an enthusiast.

    So,

    Tilt shift-
It can also be called "selective focus" , it can be called the technical "lens blur" . What it does is, focuses on the subject, and blurs everything around it. Here in Google camera, the mechanism is the same, it selects the subject with some objects on the same plane, blurs the background. No depth is seen, the blur is plain.

    Portrait mode -
The "bokeh mode", In DSLRs, and dual cam phones (except LG), and in dual pixel cameras.
In DSLRs the mechanism is to keep one plane in focus, and blur the background, but, in a very beautiful way, different planes get blurred on a different level. The nearer planes are blurred less and the farther ones, more.
In dual cam and dual pixel phones, there is a work of software and the hardware, to sense those planes, and apply the blur accordingly. In dual pixel cameras, the mechanism is a bit more complex. The two pixels of each unit in a sensor act as the dual camera, and with the help of advanced software, blur is applied.

You should try the app, after using the app it's clear that it's wayyy better than lens blur, as it does not require movie the camera over the subject.
The dev has been able to port the camera minus few features, as it doesn't work as perfectly as the Pixel 2 cameras, but then that requires a dual pixel AF camera hardware so this port might work perfectly on S8.
Another thing that proves that the app is ported is that it recognizes only human forms, and through machine learning detects the edges. Tried on non human subjects, nothing works so far.
I might be wrong but I feel you should check the app first.

How many times do I have to state it?

I use the app, it's my main camera app due to the hdr+ and enhanced hdr+.

I've been using the app since 2015...

Can you post the link to the app you are using since 2015?
I would like to do a comparison because if it existed for 2 years then what's new in this one?
    Thanks

The ported ones didn't exist back in 2015 but the lens blur did, and I used that

But lens blur is way different from this, the results from lens blur is just satisfactory, but this one works like pixel, there lack of gradual bokeh effect but the edge detection is on point. I just want to compare the app you are saying does the same thing without portrait mode.

I'm from Andaman, so if you don't know, "internet is shit" here...

And I don't want to waste data by downloading an old app.

My concern isn't edge sensing though, my concern is the blur, and how people take the advanced tilt shift as the portrait mode...

The camera app which I used was the normal Google camera from apkmirror

Okay fine. I got it, I've used the same app.
But this is not any kind of advanced tilt shift (there is neither tilting nor shifting) this one uses an algorithm which captures 2 pictures, if the picture has human face then it keeps the human in focus and blurs everything out. It even works on 2D images ( no depth detection)

There's no tilting and shifting, true, but the terminology is that, idk why XD

But yes I've not seen any depth sensing, be it human, animal or object.

Anyways, if people are fine with it, it's okay, but they shouldn't call it portrait mode, which it isn't...
