I'd say do it BETTER than Apple. Apple talks a big game on privacy but they aren't all that great. Let's do privacy better than Apple talks about it

I think there are some setedit tweaks to do it like this, but not totally sure. I wonder how hard it would be to add it to the OS as a feature?

Hopefully sometime on or around the next launch. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I'm on the latest public beta and I'm using it as my DD. Some glitches but it is really stable and I love it

Thank you for taking the time to write this response! Great points but I still disagree with some of them.

My article wasn't about how to be totally anonymous online. It also wasn't about how to do something you don't want anybody to know about. It was just about how to be more private... Not be so obvious on a public wifi, hide some things from Google, not have the FB app snooping all the time. The only way to be 100% private would be to get off the grid and live like it's 1950. But every one of these tips does increase privacy incrementally.

If something is free then pretty much YOU are the product. I'm fine with anonymous data being shared about me, not fine when that data is used to feed me info for political and other manipulative reasons.

DDG - I love DDG. There are no accounts to log into. Even if they stored all of my searches they are still more private than Google search.

Opera - they load targeted ads on their default new tab page. Pretty sure that's where they make their money. They block other ads. You made good points tho I'm definitely thinking about them.

PIA + Opera VPN - my goal here isn't 100% anonymity or to get away with something sketchy. I just want to protect myself while I'm on a public wifi or otherwise sketchy connection.

Brave - I never mentioned Brave so others can speak to that but I really think they are trying to be private

SwiftKey - the article you linked was from 2014. They were purchased by Microsoft in 2016 and as far as I know they have already addressed the issues you brought up. I don't enable cloud sync so supposedly that info never leaves my device. Still more private than gboard. Gboard is still the best keyboard app tho imo from a usability standpoint.

Facebook - FB does all the things I don't like. We all know that. I don't put a lot of info on there. When I need to go on FB I unfreeze the app, do what I gotta do on FB, then refreeze it. That's better than always being running on my device.

look, if you want to use the services offered by Google you'll have to let Google use information. do they use personal data? yes. do they sell your data? yes but it's not like your name is attached to that data.

The greatest keyboard I used was from LineageOS ( I think they use AOSP Keyboard) I loved it but too sad it crashed in OOS

A keyboard I'd like to suggest is Fleksy, really nice loads of themes and has a lot of gestures which male typing a lot quicker once you get used to them, such as swiping left on the keyboard is a backspace there are plenty more but its easier to see than for me to explain.
Been using Fleksy for a few years now and I don't think I could ever go back to not using it.

Bottom line ia that as long as Google Play Services is installed and running on your device, sorry guys bur there's no privacy no matter how many VPN services you use.
