We're always tinkering with OxygenOS to bring you a better software experience. Every feature we add is tested extensively for usability and functionality, to keep the OS as light and streamlined as possible.

Recently, we've been talking a lot about Gaming DND. This mode is our version of the classic “Do Not Disturb" mode, adjusted with a nod to gamers. Some of our users might be wondering why we developed this mode when our alert slider already has a silent mode.

With the OnePlus One, it was possible to slide your phone to silent mode. This functionality helped reduce the distraction of notifications to the people around us, but we knew we could do more. On the OnePlus 2, we introduced the Alert Slider. Users generally loved how smoothly they could toggle between modes, and we've kept the Alert Slider ever since. But still, we felt we were capable of doing more to help our users control their smartphone experience.

Since the release of our first flagship, we've seen how mobile games have gotten more complex and popular across the board. We knew a lot of our users gamed on their phones, and shared in the frustrating experience of visual notifications popping up, even if they were soundless. Gaming DND helps you stay in the moment, and immerse deeply into whatever you want to focus on – whether it's an intense round of Hearthstone or Snapseed editing.

Still confused? Here's a more in-depth breakdown of these two features.

The Alert Slider offers three different modes - Ring, Do Not Disturb, and Silent. Contrary to popular belief, Do Not Disturb in Alert Slider doesn't only refer to not disturbing others. It's also so that you won't be disturbed, and only important messages or calls are allowed. Silent mode on the other hand, mutes all notifications, including media volume and vibrations (you can enable them if you wish).

In Gaming DND, we exclusively offer two options: to block notifications and lock hardware buttons to help you better immerse yourself in your game. You can add specific apps to the Gaming DND list so that this mode automatically kicks in when you launch those apps. For faster access, feel free to add this feature to your quick settings panel (pro tip: Long press it to customize the setting to your needs).

We developed these OxygenOS features for you, so we'd love to get some feedback on the actual usefulness of these modes. How are you liking these two features? Let us know how we can make them better.

Note: The Gaming DND feature is now available on OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 3/3T’s Open Beta Program. It will be officially introduced in the OxygenOS 4.5 update for OnePlus 3/3T.

As a professional gamer, it is a good feature, for games such as Boom Beach or Clash of Clans, drop down notifications often disrupt and important attack/battle.

I don't play games too much, but being able to put the phone in silent / DnD mode automatically when I open the Camera app would be useful. It would avoid annoying notification sounds ruining a perfect video recording :)
Unfortunately I can't add the Camera app to the list of apps that trigger the mode on Beta12 @OP3t. Camera app is not on the list of the apps that can be selected.
