Proximity sensor in 6T

    Hello Folks,

I have been using the 6T for almost a month now and I am completely thrilled with the overall experience and happy about the value we get for this price. Camera can be improved further but that is software update and I am willing to wait.

The one major thing that is bugging me now is the proximity sensor (Does it even have one now since the tear drop notch seems to be having only front facing camera??). Whenever I talk to someone the phone seems to be lighting up even though it is near my ear.

Can someone from OnePlus Team highlight what could be the possible reasons ?

Does everyone having 6T facing similar issues please ?

    Thanks !!

I have the same issue. Many times i see the screen going on during a call. If i move down the telephone with the front camera in the middle of my ear it seems to work correctly

The cam is the proximity sensor. If you have pocket mode on you can test it at the lock screen by covering the camera with your finger.

the proximity sensor is actually just up and to the left of the camera however you can only see a tiny purple tiny in VERY specific lighting.

wow yeah good call. there's definitely TWO blue/purple sensors on the left side of the front facing camera. you need a bright flashlight to see it. they are oriented on a slant and make a little D shapes (one is a backwards D...looks like (| |) but more pill shaped)

You are probably coming from a much smaller phone and have a tendency to grip it too low so that proximity sensor that is next to front camera is above your ear.
This way your phone is not locked up while you are having a phone call and it is lightening up :)

I've had trouble with the proximity sensor letting the screen come on while on calls with every OnePlus phone I ever had, it's really annoying, sometimes it will work fine, if I'm on a call sometimes it will light up so I just move it away from my head and bring it back till the screen goes off.
By using testing apps I can see the sensor is working fine so I'm certain it's a software problem

it is user end issue how is it handled during the call...
    not the software problems....
Try to change way you use to keep your phone during the call so you are in the proximity calibration.

Thanks so much for all your responses. The Bughunters team already got in touch with me the same day I opened this thread. There are few steps I had done to share them the logs for their perusal. This is not an issue that has either got to do with how I keep my phone or not even sure it is a software issue itself. Their Dev team is working on it and I will be sending them some more logs as I run into this issues again consistently for their validation.

I shall keep this thread updated with the outcome please. Till then let's not speculate what it could be. If any of you have this problem consistently then update this thread and the Bughunters may be able to reach out to you and let you know the process to take logs which I believe should help them identify any issue in software if it exists.

    Much Thanks !

Same for me and my wife. We keep on calling random numbers with our face. the phone size is not the problem since I'm coming from Samsung Note's and my wife from iphone 6s plus

I'm having this issue as well. Coming from the Pixel XL it's not a phone size issue or me holding it incorrectly

i have the same problem proximity sensor sometimes triggers the screen to unlock and the ear touches the on call button. Alot of time s it mutes the call and I don't even realise it. Disconnects the call and records.
Oneplus if you need to fix this

I am having the same problem with ear dialing. Is this a problem with my 6T specifically and should I return it for a new one?

Had this problem since launch day. If I hold phone on my shoulder to talk (hands are full) I keep hitting the mute button. Super annoying. I tried moving the phone down a little so the sensor is dead center of my ear and it still seems to happen.

Just got the Sensor app and it shows that the proximity sensor is working fine on my phone. However, if your head/ear drifts off more then 5cm from it then you could activate something on the screen easily. It seems that the sensor turns on and off quickly. Maybe a slight delay would be helpful devs? I'm gonna have to be more conscious of how I use the phone and see if it helps.
