Proximity sensor problems

Hey, as you can see in the title, I'm having proximity sensor problems. When I call someone, the screen won't turn off. I tried tapping the proximity sensor. That turns it off, but then it wont wake if I pull it away from my ear. I tried fixing it with this forum post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353972 but the commands always come back with "Can't create /sys/class/sensors/proximity_sensor/prox_cal/: No such file or directory" (yes, I did start by typing "su", and yes, I do have root access). Also I do have a screen protector and the cut fits tightly around the proximity sensor. I did make sure there was no dust by it as well. Someone told me to flash a modem but I have no idea what that is

Flashing a modem can help. Just a .zip you can flash in custom recovery.

Extract NON-HLOS.bin from your current rom/firmware zip
    Then
    Code:
    Fastboot erase modem
    Fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
    Trust me...

What does this do? Do I have a chance of bricking my device?

Well if you type exactly as above ^ then you won't brick your device..
What that thing does is erasing your modem partition and flash it with the one designed for your current rom. Your problem usually occurs when trying to flash different version of android (upgrade/downgrade ie. 5.0.2 to 4.4.4) but you will need to unlock your device and it will delete all your data ;)

@biltoad - Thanks! I trusted you, and this worked perfectly ... much better than any other "fix" I found. I tried flashing Stock ROMs and other modems, but this was the only thing that worked for me.

If anybody else wants to try this out on their unlocked bootloader OPO, you may be interested in using this Minimal ADB and Fastboot tool. It loads a small footprint ADB/Fastboot command prompt without loading the full Android SDK.
