Yh noticed that on DP2/3 as well, reported it but told me to wipe the notch area. Worked fine after that for a couple of days again.

On my op6t, the proximity sensor seems to be not working properly. When i get calls, after attending the call and keeps the phone on to ear, the screen goes off. Then within seconds it turns back on and the touch recognises my ear and chin as finger and everything is touched and terrible things are happening. even i didn't move the phone, the screen goes on. Something is wrong with the proximity sensor.

I guess it has to do with the calibration of the proximity sensor which is software related.

When I bought the 5t I got four of them, one red, and three black, and gave them to my employees. My wife has a 5t and she is experiencing the unwanted results that the original poster and so many others are dealing with. I did everything I could to fix the problem to no avail and traded phones with her as my phone did not have this problem. I had no issues with her phone during calls but she again complained that the phone was doing the same thing. One of my employees also had this issue with the red 5t and I wanted to test a theory so I switched phones again. I did not experience any problems but my employee told me the phone was doing the same thing. After this I was pretty sure I had determined what the issue was but needed to test it fully. I used my phone in a way that was abnormal for me but did produce the error that my wife and employee had. When I make phone calls I place the phone against my ear and the phone doesn't make much contact with my cheek, but my wife seems to have the phone placed in a way that the most of the phone touches her face. I tried making calls with phone placed against my face and I could see the screen light up, and when I made calls with the phone placed to my ear and clear of my cheek the screen would stay black as it should. I had my employee do this for awhile and she did not have any more issues although my wife did not like that my suggestion was that she should hold the phone differently. I don't think that this is a user problem but a problem with the software not accounting for unintended touch input during phone calls. I think that during phone calls it should require the user to fully lower the phone to look at the screen before accepting any touch input. I hope this helps both the OP dev team and OP users in some way.

really useful response! will give this a go! now you mention it, most of the time I have issues is when I squeeze the phone between my face and my shoulder to free up my hands!

    thanks again

Since a few messages are from Dec 2018 it seems that there are been a update that screwed up the proximity sensor calibration!
My OnePlus6 stop protecting the screen during calls and more annoyingly the Pocked mode stopped working (I assume same sensor)

    What is going on? [e]1f622[/e]

same problem here with oneplus 6t
i think oneplus is having a hard time with the proximity sensor
i got my few a week now and it is often finishing calls on people because of the oroximity sensor.
but i figured out what the problem is and i hope the oneplus fixes it as soon as possible in the next update
the problem is that the proximity sensor trigger distance is too short ( 1cm approximately)
i did a test call and covered up the sensor with my finger to see if the sensor work and if the screen will wake up at some moment but it didn't
also tried double taping the screen while covering the sensor to see if my face is causing it to wake but it didn't turn on
so the sensor is working but when i raised my finger off it for a short distance and voilaa the screen turns on.
i've gone to *#808# menu to test further more
i noticed that the proximity sensor triggered on mean value: 56.0 i hope that oneplus lowers this triggering value in the next update or add an option to change it in the settings

so to sum up the problem does not happen because of my face touching the screen while calling and does not happen because of the sensor not working bit it happens because the proximity sensor distance is too short and when the sensor gets directly in front of the deeper area of my ear it triggers the "FAR EVENT" so the screen lights up.i did some calls while holding the phone slightly away from that deep area of my ear and the calls goes okey

I find myself dialing people while I'm in the middle of a call already, if I have the op6t propped between my shoulder and my ear.
    any fix for this?
