A delayed important email, for some people could be a deal breaker.

So it's also up to app makers to determine if their notifications are deemed priority, so is it possible that some email clients will be more likely to have instant notifications than others while the phone is in Doze?

I use Nine as my email client and I'm not getting notifications once it's in Doze until I wake the phone up. As a matter of fact, this is true with Gmail and all other apps too. Dealbreaker for me. I'm not gonna root or wait for OP to fix it.

some app developers have had their hands slapped and apps removed from google play,
because they have used the app_send_priority flag enabling the app to use the priority notification transport in GCM,
Gmail, for example doesn't use the priority flag, so,
it will never receive push notifications whilst the
    phone is in doze mode.

Now you can see why I said,
    doze mode sucks,
as in an ideal world, the push notification enabled apps
would or should be using the priority transport of the GCM.
but Google gets to decide and control what's priority,
so.... it clearly doesn't work as it should.

Have you had enough time with the device with this fix applied to ascertain if battery life is affected (less than ideally) when you turn doze off?

How Google's own iconic app for one of their main services doesn't have the priority flag is beyond me. Inbox doesn't work either.

on the OP2 , tested this doze mode disabled and I honestly can say, (apart from getting my push notifications
when I should) I have noticed a Total battery % drop of only 2.5% over the average 12 Hour day,

That's an easy one to answer,
Google does not want everyone's free Gmail accounts flooding their
precious Priority client side of the GCM service.
Basically, your emails, according to Google, are not important enough
to use our priority GCM service.

had the same problem on OP2 on OOS3.0.2 and CM13...if the hit is somwheat same on the OP3 it's perfectly reasonable until a proper OEM fix comes out. It's just unfortunate that I'll have to set up my phone completely new since I don't have an unlocked bootloader yet, was trying to keep stock until custom ROMS mature. Well, rather do that than keep obsessing over missed notifications.

I hope OnePlus is reading this,
as you say, the OP2 on OOS 3.0.2 has the same bug,
and they have not applied a fix for this,,, yet......

Is this an every unit wide problem and people who say they don't have it, simply never entered a Doze mode yet?

    Yes,
Every single one on a MM rom with Google Play Services installed.
(google play services provides the GCM service for push notifications).

The ADB fix you mentioned. Is the procedure when you're rooted any different? does the adb command also modify the global .sys file or do I have to do anything differently?

    Graham Robertson , Jun 20, 2016 :
There is a procedure to pull the global sys file using adb and edit it to use the whitelist,
then push it back to the system.
    it is searchable on google.
    also search for adb push
there is a lot of info about this and a complete doze mode editor (requires root) here:
