Hey all...I read somewhere on the forum that the OnePlus Switch app allows you to make a backup...is this the same as creating an image file of a HDD? Or is there a better way to make a complete image of the phone in its current state... thus allowing me to come back to this exact state of phone if I don't like what changes the oxygen update causes??

thanks in advance for any advice or tips !

no its not. image is completely different thing.
it will only backup apps, few settings and their data.
no there is no better way to backup entire system unless you are rooted.

So basically if you update your phone and want to rollback to last stable version with all your stuff intact ... is there an easy way to do this?

I use the free version and haven't had any problems. The caveat it with the free version all restores - SMS etc has to be done manually...

Use adb backup command in adb&fastboot. That gives you a complete Backup of the phone's state. Only SMS is not backed up.
