As the greatest wise
@Mike once said: ‘smartphone design (specially hardware) is a game of trade-offs, you can always have something at the expense of something else.’
The reason behind the statement can be easily interpreted if one knows how a phone is actually made:
Product Manager starts the journey by composing a phone design with perceived ideal hardware specification;
Industrial designer works on the design, tries out different materials;
Hardware engineer customizes the mainboard, the camera lens, the battery, the fingerprint sensor;
Procurement engineer finds the supplier who offers parts with the best quality and lowest price;
Structural engineer figures out how to put all these pieces inside of a phone body, and ensures that each component functions well.
(and believe me, these guys fight a lot)
The original design will be repeatedly tested and modified for thousands of times, during which the trade-offs occur.
Human beings seek perfection. However, a perfect smartphone with ALL awesome features in EVERY aspect, will probably end up being huge or surprisingly expensive. The practical way for smartphone makers is to find a balance point: a phone with best camera and fashionable design for trendy people; a phone with top performance for the professionals; an affordable phone with OK features for the ones who are budget minded.
If one plays the trade-offs well and precise, users benefit. To make our users happy, is always what OnePlus' biggest mission is.
Thus we asked the Community about the most favorable features by the past QotWs; when pulling all results together, your ideal phone appeared. A phone that is made by the Community, and now, we are presenting it to you:
