Question: Preloaded app stub for HDR streaming?

    My take on the issue:
    • I choose to pick the Uninstallable App but with HDR
    • For those who doesn't want the extra app - have the app hidden in the launcher or disable it
    • Oneplus could turn it into a 2 part App
      • Main app (uninstallable, but can be disabled/hidden in launcher)
      • System App that holds encryption/DRM data or whatsoever that user needed to get HDR content
      • User see main app, then hide/disable it and doesn't affect the HDR
    • Arguments regarding DRM:
      • I think the way DRM is implemented right now assumes that everyone is a pirate or try to pirate content
      • Oneplus won't have enough leverage to kill DRM in general
    • With all this in mind, I'd rather choose the app over not having HDR
PS: Please put 3.5mm plug for next gen device!

Getting a brand new phone, with ads on the home screen?
    No, thanks!

One of the ways OnePlus really differs from the competition is by its a clean, bloat free experience. Take that away and watch as the reasons to pick OnePlus slowly fades away.

Hidden does not mean not running at background.
There has to be a posibility to permanently disable that feature.

There is no HDR10 screen in the Poco, you can't have everything for $300.;)

I'm a bit oppossed to preloading the app what about having a welcome batch of one time apps. That will ask the user to install if they have a interest that way you are opening it to k all users but they don't have a to keep it on. honestly though couldn't you support HDR without the app. never settle to let the app company do it for you.

I truly appreciate the transparency but pre loading a uninstallable is the one hundred percent blostware as comparison was T-Mobile TV app that sucked the life out of you but felt mostly just intrusive.

Here are the pros and cons we can share so far:

HDR streaming would be awesome but not really through app.

since don't know specs for future hardware that statement is a bit loaded it isn't wrong but not something in transparency can be confirmed.

    Thank you.

Thanks OP for creating this thread and for answering to a few questions.

I wouldn't mind HDR app if that makes your phones more popular (needs to be casted though, otherwise I'm not sure of the usefullnes)

BUT not possible to uninstall is a no!

    I recall that thread
    https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/contest-oneplus-rom-you-name-it.208689/
"We promise that it will be close to stock, bloat-free, and highly customizable"
An app from content provider that one can't uninstall WILL be considered bloat.
Think twice, you might loose your strongest customer base and slowly become just like a few other brands.

    You mean ununinstallable :p

Only uninstallable means you can remove it

As long as the stub can be hidden and doesn't use any system resources or track me if I don't use it, I'm cool with it being preloaded in return for a better video experience.

As per my knowledge, HDR streaming on phone display doesn't make much difference in viewing experience. Also pre-installed app is not acceptable as I love clean os. As you mentioned HDR will be for few scenes in a video doesn't make sense to have an app for streaming.
