I have a 290X and I love it, although I need to admit that if you want to game with it (as I do), go nvidea, I don't know how they do it, but the support for nvidea cards are always better on most AAA titles

I've had a Radeon card in my desktop for about 3 years and I regret not getting a Nvidia for the CUDA cores when rendering videos and PhysX in games. I would have to choose the GTX. Looking at eventually upgrading to a 770 (Or 870, depending on what is the latest).

Man Im running two sli 660ti and I can handle any game on max if that gives you a good area to start. I'm not sure if they will do 4k but sli 780 ti would be future proof for years. Games are not pushed by the PC market they are pushed by console that is why a PC will last much longer now.

Go to this website, it has a breakdown of performance, but both cards are pretty much neck and neck. I would say that they are over-kill, but if you have the money then go for it! You wont notice much of a difference, but the Nvidia does seem to have higher fps in games while the AMD performs better by a landslide on a few synthetic benchmarks like3DMark11.
