Hey everyone,
Here’s a recap of our second Open Ears Forum in India held on the 4th of May in Goa. Last year, when we held an OEF on Product in India, we gathered a bunch of community members from different parts of the country to get feedback on India specific features for OxygenOS and more with the product team. Those discussions in a closed setting gave us a fresh perspective on what we can do to create a better experience for our users in India.
Taking on from our first edition, we held a forum specifically focused on enhancing the relationship between OnePlus and the developer community. For this, we got a mixed set of users including Indian and International developers, some of our core, active community members, and even some contributors from the first OEF in India. This was to get mixed, comprehensive feedback on the new topic.
We started off with a short time of getting to know each other and got a quick update on our activities in India by Vikas. Before moving on, it was important to understand Open Ears Forum as a program, our latest editions around the globe and major commitments that came as a result of these events. @Gary C. led this session and proceeded to give us a brief history about our relationship with the developer community over the past 4 years - How it began, how it functions currently, and also gave us some hints about the future of developer relations.
Following this, we had @Szymon K. moderate our sessions for the rest of the day. Starting with a good time of problem finding and problem presentations in classic OEF style which took up most of our afternoon. Building on these sessions, we identified some key focus areas and ended the day with a summary and some feedback time.

And here are our commitment points from Open Ears Forum: Developer Community
- Kernel sources to be released on time for all builds including Open Beta build.
- We will introduce a Bounty Program for reporting security vulnerabilities.
- We will be promoting custom ROMS on OnePlus forums and Social Media for EOL (End of life) devices.
- Concerns about apps getting killed in the background due to aggressive battery optimization – to be fixed in upcoming updates.
- We will make sure that devices are seeded quicker to developers in the program after the launch of a new device.
- We will be expanding the existing device seeding program to include more members.
- More OnePlus community meetups to be organized around our developer community.
