    Hello everyone,

Last Saturday, we hosted our latest Open Ears Forum on OxygenOS in San Francisco, USA. This was our first Open Ears Forum in North America. We were more than thrilled to invite our community members to the Bay Area, a global hub for technology and innovation. By sharing ideas on the future of our software and gathering first-hand feedback/suggestions by talking with users, we’re confident we are ready to create a more mature OxygenOS.

    What happened

During the event, we split 28 attendees into four discussion groups, each was assigned two members of the OnePlus software team. Shawn, head of software product, officially started the event by sharing our software history and thoughts. Later on, we set aside time for some of the most asked questions from our community. We had two key workshops in the afternoon, one for new feature ideas, and another to discuss a new design interface. Priceless feedback and suggestions were ever present throughout the day. To make this event even more special, we revealed a few secrets to our friends near the end of the event XD

A big shout out to all users who joined us at the event. Your inspiring and passionate input is what helps us smash all the roadblock to building a better OxygenOS. We are excited to see what we can achieve together in the near future.

    Q&A Section

Q: What exactly is the fully immersive game experience you aim to provide through gaming mode?
A: It's mainly about reducing interruptions (notifications or phone calls) when you play a video game. Besides, overall performance and network fluctuations improve as well.

Q: What’s your plan to enhance user privacy in the future?
A: We always prioritize user privacy in our work. To ensure that our users' privacy is well protected, we have set up an inter-departmental team. Plus, we will follow GDPR in the coming month.

Q: What are your plans regarding software updates?
A: We know every member of our community wants the latest updates. The official Android 8.1 update will be rolled out for the OnePlus 5/5T soon, followed by official Android 8.0 updates for the OnePlus 3/3T. OnePlus 3/3T users will have Android 8.1 official release in the mid-2018.

Q: Do you have any plans to improve the camera quality on the OnePlus 5/5T?
A: Yes. We’ve received a lot of feedback following our Open Ears Forum in Hamburg and online surveys. We are planning to fix the so-called “oil painting effect”.

Q: Have you ever considered a stay awake feature? It would be useful for cooking, reading repair manuals, anything when your hands are busy, etc.
A: This is a fantastic idea! We might consider adding a toggle to the quick settings menu that enables your phone to stay awake for a specific period of time.

Q: Any plans to update the alert slider to support a ring, vibrate and silent mode?
A: Yes. Hope you guys are looking forward to it.

Q: Are you going to support accent color customization?
A: Yes. It’s on the way.

We are prioritizing our software plans and actions based on the feedback we've collected from our community and Open Ears Forums, and we have been working a bunch of exciting stuff regarding software. Can't wait to let you know what's ahead.

    Hi friends,

Following are updates for those questions you guys raised in the SFO event.
    No worries, I didn't forget ;)

Q1: Excepted the bi-monthly regular formal release update with the latest security patches, could you provide an extra update if Google releases an emergency security patch?

A1: We fully understand the importance of security patch updating for system overall secure. Therefore, we decide to release an extra build included security patches if Google releases an emergency security fix from now.

Q2: When would you fix the “oil painting “issue in OnePlus 5/5T devise?
A2: We will improve the photo clarity and make it less oil-painting in our beta program in June.

Q3: Do you support Camera2API on your devices?
A3: Yes, the Camera2API is fully supported in most of the devices(3/3T/5/5T), if you have issues for the Camera2API usage, please contact us via user feedback channel.

Q4: Is there any chance to make an option for Launcher new installed dot on/off?
A4: We are going to have an improvement for showing new install apps in the following version. Please check our launcher updates in the future.

Q5: The download speed for the CBT update is so slow.
A5: We are working on it, this issue will be fixed very soon.

Q6: Can you support application data migration in OnePlus Switch?
A6: In OnePlus Switch V1.1.3, we have supported application data migration, but not for all only those we have verified.

Q7: May I use specific SIM to call out for different user group?
A7: Yes, we will take it. The draft schedule would be our Open Beta in 2018 Q3.

Q8: Any chance to have more customizations for Alert slider and off-screen gesture?
A8: For the Alert slider, we may not add more customization to it since we want to keep it simple and clear as possible. As for the Off-screen gesture customization, we already have many, if you have great idea welcome to tell us!

Q9: Could Face Unlock and messages are shown on Ambient display can only be activated when I looking at my phone?
A9: This is really a good idea! Although we could not detect eye motion right now, we will take it and seek the solution. Thank you for providing this idea to us!

Q10: Can we have a quick setting option for “stay awake”?
A10: Okay, we will consider it in following Android P new design.

I hope to see the camera improvements to come soon, and also hope that it really improves the image processing. That would result into lesser redundant threads complaining about the camera.

Two more things which I am looking forward to are:
    1. Alert Slider Customisation
    2. Accent Colours[e]1f60d[/e]
