Why after 2 years would my phone fail to recharge?
it struggles to accept a connection cable...
    the red light comes on
but the battery icon does not display a lightening flash as it used to.
After total failure and reset it now shows a red light reluctantly.
    odd

Hi, which device are you using? OP5/T or OP6 because of the stated age of the device? You wouldn't have access to any other OnePlus cable by any chance to see if your device charges fine with that or be able to check if your current cable does work with another device? If you connect your device to e.g. a computer, does it recognise the device for file transfer? Have you used a different cable/charger to charge your device?

    Thanks
I have tried 3 different cables and 2 chargers
    They make no difference.
Logic says it's a software issue.

I've not seen anyone else reporting it, but if you think it's a software issue, you could check in the most recent update thread of your device, which you can find in your device's section:
    https://forums.oneplus.com/forums/OnePlus5-5T/
    or
    https://forums.oneplus.com/forums/OnePlus6-6T/
or it might be worth contacting Customer Support (https://www.oneplus.com/support) to see if they can fix it during a remote session.

If you normally carry your phone in your pocket, it might also be that there has been some accumulation of lint in the charger port, which might be worth checking.

Do you also have issues when connecting your phone to a computer? Does it detect it? Are you able to transfer files?

Have you only been experiencing the issue since an update? You didn't notice any unusual drainage prior to that? It doesnt't seem to be an issue with the battery itself?

    The situation is getting worse.
Now it won't recharge whilst Battery Saver is live....

Are you able to access photos etc through using the USB port? If your computer doesn't recognise it, it may point to an issue with the USB port on your phone.
