My last Sony CRT tv is still running for 17 yrs with no glitches. Now I think TVs will have shorter lifetime.

Always loved Sony tv for their picture quality but their user interface has always struggled. Very interested to see how Oneplus does it. Oxygen OS is very smooth on my 7 Pro and looking forward to the same experience on the TV. Let's just hope they nail the beautiful screen quality that they offer in their phones as well.

needless to say, the hype is to the max!

I think this is where Android needs to step up and do the right thing. They should pull a Microsoft and support their operating system for a good long time, like 10 years (if I am not wrong Apple did this well) . Android allow the manufacturers to produce products and support for 2 updates then drop you like a hot potato. Android needs to step up and do the support since it is their os. This would eliminate problems like fragmentation due to so many versions, as well as non support of phones, etc.

The software part is aging faster but the TV hardware (should) last longer. More than 3 years.
It would be nice to have longer sw updates.

Yeah I understand, but the article I referred to earlier talked about the problems after support dries up for the os. Android tv could be supported by Google for a lot longer than any manufacturer would, enabling people to get perhaps support of the os for the life of the hardware

Cant wait to replace my Sony Bravia which was exceptionally breathtaking in picture quality but had the worst durability ( couldn't' survive even 2 years ). I hope OnePlus also focuses on long lasting panels and good after sales service.

That's great news. But my concerns are only that the newer Android TVs are facing. The permissions and registration with the online streaming companies like Amazon and Netflix. Most new Android TV companies are not registered with these giants and the buyers are not able to enjoy them on their new Android TVs (like that of Xiaomi).

Hopefully OnePlus does take care of this.

Maybe I am misunderstanding your point but Sony x900f waa able to use Amazon prime video with no problem. Also Sony x950g has a dedicated Netflix settings for when you use Netflix. But then again I could be wrong, I have looked at 4 or 5 tvs in the last month and they start to blur together
