I using 38r without any mod / change from ROM (just root), I don't found any problems yet.
There are too many apps which might have unknown problem / conflict with ROM's build in function / apps, we should choose app wisely, especially any apps relative / changing to system setting.
I try to share some personal experience and opinion about smartphone usage:
Choose the right App to use
You may need test carefully before confirm for long term use , or remove once found any problems.
e.g.: security systems --- these types of app / system may easier crush with system or issue the battery or connectivity problem by unknown reasons.
You need to make proper decision say will the app keep background internet access or not?
For me , most of Chinese app / game are generally have that issue..., especially those "free" music / video download or watching, and those app are mostly installed from unknown source out of Google Play too... so I mostly avoid to use them.
Don't install "duplicated" system function type apps if not necessary
"App Opps" type ---> CM11s already build in "Privacy setting" option, same thing. (also any app opps app will not work in CM11 even you installed)
"Battery matter / so on" --> our phone already got an battery icon shows how many % power left, extra app only create extra system resource usage and maybe even more ads download behind, too.
Memory cleaning software --> Android doing good memory management since version 4.2 above, means we really no need those apps.
Also we have task manager, just clean the recent software or clicking "clear memory" from memory setting then get the effect we need.
Use privacy setting in CM11
This is the "App opps" feature but changed the name in CM11 rom only, it is very useful which to control and monitor which app want to access any phone resource.
e.g.: you can control the app not allowed to read your phone contact or sms when it launch; or not allowed to access / collect your phone location randomly.
(but note that, Google Map may's navigation will not working if you disable for location access)
Consider to use Firewall
Use firewall will be the best way to control any app to access internet, based from different connection type:
Per WiFi only, 3G/LTE only or both or no access.
But firewall app mostly works under root mode only, technical skills requested.
If you got correct setting, games access ads in background will be blocked, but you need to clarify each app / game able to run under offline mode or not (no internet access) ---- or just limited some app can access internet only under WiFi environment if necessary.
Last
Combining all parts of setting and app choose, if in correct way, you may found your phone not that easy crush, reasonable data flow and much better battery! (including the correct data sync setting too.)
