Route call audio output to bluetooth device Jan 19, 2021

Hello
I'd like to route audio out from calls to a bluetooth audio device if connected. I mean not a headset with mic but a regular bluetooth speaker or audio receiver.
Is it possible? If not, why?
When making a call, in audio settings pop-up I can try to select different bluetooth devices I have installed. But nothing happens phone reverts my selection back to the onboard speaker.
