It is great that you are using an In-Display Fingerprint sensor in OnePlus 6T but still it is a 2D optic sensor and that's why it is slow and fails to work sometimes.
But the 3D Sonic sensor from Qualcomm is the real future.
It works fine with wet fingers and everything and it is actually a secure sensor unlike 2D sensor used in OnePlus 6T.
So, do you have any plans to use that Qualcomm 3D Sonic sensor in your next OnePlus device?

An in-display LED notification feature will consume far too much power. This was asked during a Q&A arranged at OnePlus's Bangalore experience centre. We were informed that the driver IC for the screen will still have to drive all the pixels even if you're trying to light up just a couple of pixels. OnePlus doesn't add features that don't add functionality worth the battery life trade-off.

I thought my fingerprint successes were increasing with attempts!!

question for u , since u mentioned that the finger sensor is improving every time u use and recording the missing parts which not been captured before .. dose this case any overload on the sensor and make it full and will not open the phone as fast as expected.. due to the full memory .. some of the 1+6T users has a issue withe the finger print unlock

I'm pretty sure that's now how th fingerprint sensor works. There's no "storage" within the sensor, no "memory full" problem will occur. It'll only record whatever was missed before. There's no way you can overload the fingerprint sensor.
As far as users facing a problem is concerned, that's probably because they tried unlocking with wet or dusty fingers. The sensor will have to be re-trained to work with water/dust on your fingers. That's it.
I'm on a OnePlus 6, but this is what I've understood from all the posts concerning in-display fingerprint sensors both within this forum, and outside.

This doesn't answer your question per se, but will give you a good idea about the different technologies used in fingerprint sensors. I don't know what parameters you're keeping in mind when you ask if OnePlus's is better than the other one, but it is really good. One of the best, if not the best, implementations of in-display fingerprint sensors is on the OnePlus 6t.

Here's a link with information about all three types of fingerprint scanners:

    Hi Dale.
I have my new 1+6T. I bought it about a week after its launch. But still I am finding it difficult to start the phone by the Touch screen lock.
How much time does it take foe the phone sensor to read my fingure print?

I'm having a hard time unlocking my device with the in-screen fingerprint scanner. Something that I have not tried is registering my fingers in a dark environment. I will try that next in hopes for improvement. Has this worked for anyone?

In display fingerprint is nothing but a showoff as a discrete fingerprint sensor is much faster and can be used for other purposes if the manufacturer wants it to with the screen turned on.

Does this apply to OnePlus devices with the capacitive fingerprint sensor too?

The sensor on the back if my previouswas more reliable. Sometimes the 6T just doesn't recognize my print. it seems sensitive to the angle the finger is presented. It may be a software thing.
