I agree also with piotrek.ef and Haze 1990 this should be a standard feature out of the box. I just want the SD to store my pictures and music and I don't want to do it manually. I think it is even more important than allowing apps to move to the SD as this OTA does.

TL,DR; the micro SD are not shown in the "storage" settings.
The SD cards are sometimes not even shown in the file explorer (like in this case), sometimes we can just access to the files in the explorer (my case), but anyway, we cant use it to store our apps, our pictures, videos...
well that's a big issue, even if someone who did not install the latest firmware upgrade told us that there is no problem with his SD card. So maybe it's just a little firmware problem?
Well for the moment it's still a little disapointment

(like i said in the other thread, i used an sdxc, an sdhc, all in multiple type of format, fat32, exFat...)

So, after more than a week, we can sum up things:

- the problem seems to be software, in the first version of oxygen os, it seems that people can use well their SD card. After the upgrade, in oxygen os 2.1.2 - build ONE E1003_14_151024 , problems appears
- for big capacity SD cards, check the formatting system. ExFat is not accepted for the moment (it seems) so fat32 or NTFS for everyone
- the cards are not recognized in the storage menu of the settings, but the cards are shown in file explorer apps and media players
- major issues besides the format is that you cant place your app in the SD (but maybe you just cant since google doesn't allow this... things to clarify), you cant use your sd to store photos and videos taken from your camera. And spotify wont let you save your offline music on the SD. Yeah big big issue.
- we know that the problem has been reported to the dev team, we hope to have a new OTA soon, (one or two weeks from here, nov. 11)

Ha, me too! I've had the phone for two weeks now and have taken loads of photos. Its really bad with low light shots....

After the update microsd is working like a charm on exfat. Hopefully something is possible to make pictures better in low light indeed. Pretty bad now. Didn't expect the best pictures, but better than this. For the rest the phone is awesome.

I cant get my micro sd card to work with my oneplus x, because whenever i put it in it just says "Preparing SD card - scanning/checking for errors" for eternity.
If anyone has a answer to fix this and to get my micro sd card to work with my oneplus x, please reply.

I got yesterday my OPX (first OP, coming from Galaxy S3). I like the phone a lot BUT I also encountered the SD Card issue. I've been playing around in order to shed some light "empirically". Hope this helps the dev team as well as other users until the promised fix reaches us (apparently 1-2 weeks according to @Helen --> thanks by the way!)

I have two cards: MicroSDXC 64 GB Class 10 by Samsung and a very old MicroSD 2 GB by Kingston.

I tried formatting both of them with different file systems, here are the results:

- 2GB SD (with OxygenOS 2.1.2 build 14_151103):

exFAT: not detected at all, no error messages

FAT32: detected, works! (meaning normally seen in stock and third party file managers, and apps in general: Google photos, music, Here maps...)

FAT: detected, works!

NTFS: detected, works!

- 64 GB SDXC (with OxygenOS 2.1.2 build 14_151103)

exFAT: not detected at all, no error messages (same with OxygenOS 2.1.0!!! Does not depend on last OTA update...)

FAT32: not detected at all, no error messages

NTFS: detected, works (but I would prefer using exFAT)

The USB OTG (tested with both with a 2GB usb stick and with the microSD cards above, inserted in a USB reader) shows similar issues with file systems:

exFAT: detected but not working, stuck on error checking (all three storages)

FAT32: works on the 2 GB usb stick and the 2GB SD card (64 GB not tested)

NTFS: works on the 2 GB usb stick (others not tested)

The failed detection of some file systems and sizes is a bug, and a big one, it should have been tested properly before releasing the software/phone. Anyway I'm sure they are working very hard on it.

Detection bug apart, another big issue is the poor microSD UX, as already written extensively on the forum:

Storage is not appearing in the settings > storage menu: here the used and free space should be listed, as well as the FORMAT and UNMOUNT commands (if you remove the SD the phone complains you didn't unmount correctly!). I guess unmount should also be available for a USB OTG drive.

A fundamental option to save photos and videos directly SD card in the camera app.

Many complain about not being able to move apps to the SD card: I personally don't consider it a big problem. It's not reliable nor fast to do so (and not suggested by Google either). I prefer to keep apps on the internal memory.

By the way, i don't want to go off topic but the Camera app (v 1.1.0) is a disappointment for me. No manual controls at all, except the exposure compensation, which I like! The user should be able to shoot in full auto but also have the possibility to change some parameters if he wishes to. For example: metering mode, ISO, shutter speed, white balance. I guess these are more complicated and hence require more time developing. But hopefully the camera team is already working on them.

For the moment focus on the SD related detection bug and UX features! Good work!

From India... I flashed my OPX with OOS 2.1.3. Now I am able to see the SD card is Settings --> Storage. Able to move apps (atleast partially, as is the case with unrooted devices) to SD card now. But still there is no option to save Camera pics to SD card.

After update 2.1.3.
I tried several SD cards. Samsung evo class 10 in 128 GB formatted ext fat and NTFS interrupted seen in phone. Samsung evo class 10 in 64 GB formatted NTFS ok and can place apps on it.
Sandisk 32 GB fat ok.
So only problem at the moment is 128 GB.

I Have formatted in deep my 64 Gb SD card with this tool "guiformat.exe" in Fat32 fyle system (it took more than 2 hours!!).
After that I can see the SDcard with FileExplorer app.
Anyway, still no visible from OPX Settings-->Memory and I have no idea on how to save Camera Pics into SDcard by default.

Did you try exFAT for the 64GB card or is NTFS necessary?

Did not try exfat on 64GB, sorry. Bought the 128GB card especially for the phone...hope in next update it will work, but so far happy with the 64 GB.
Formatted all cards on PC.
