SMS/MMS not working over WiFi. via OnePlus 6T

About two weeks ago (Probably with the next Oxygen update) my phone stopped being able to send SMS over WiFi with my Verizon SIM. I know that OnePlus devices aren't fully capable on Verizon (like no calling or MMS over Wifi) so I called Verizon support to see if something had changed. They assured me there were no restrictions on their end. I contacted OnePlus support multiple times about the issue and received nothing that resembled competent tech support. Knowing that T Mobile fully supports OnePlus devices, I decided to get a T Mobile SIM. I cannot send SMS or MMS over wifi with my T Mobile SIM either. The problem is clearly with the OnePlus device but I can't get any support from OnePlus. Can anyone explain to me in Layman's terms how to roll back the latest update which is most likely the cause of my issues?

Try installing Google Messages, free from the Play Store. Once installed, set it as your default messaging app and in Message settings, select and set up, "Chat features". If this solves your issue, not only will you have SMS and MMS but also worldwide RCS messaging.

I've been using Google messages for about a week now and I've unfortunately already attempted to change this setting. Didn't help. Not on Textra either.

Those chat features actually don't work over wifi anyway, at least on this phone. I'm sure the update to these features have something to do with my SMS and MMS problem though.

I am also having this problem on T-Mobile but only since I upgraded from the 7 pro to the 5G 7t Pro McLaren.

Same here. MMS messages over WiFi and sometimes over LTE as well are not sending or downloading with 7T Pro 5G McLaren. It's super annoying.

    I finally got mine fixed.
    It was the SIM.
I used the SIM from my 7Pro instead of the new one that came with my McLaren. T-Mobile tech suggested this and after activating the new SIM I was instantly able to MMS over WiFi.

I have changed my SIM; it didn't fix the problem.

I have tried multiple messaging apps, from the native one to the Google one to Textra and Go SMS; none of those fixed the problem.

I have master reset the phone; it didn't fix the problem.

I created a new APN profile, mimicking all the T-Mobile settings, but changing it to IPv4; didn't work.

    The problem is the phone.

Wifi and MMS are such ubiquitous features that to sell a product that can't MMS on WiFi makes your company and product look inferior. I love everything else about my phone so much that I was in denial that the problem is as bad as it is, but at this point it affects me at least ten times a day. I'm really disappointed. At work, if I get a picture, group text, or SMS from an iPhone, I have to go outside and turn the WiFi off to manually download the message. Every other phone I've had this decade can receive a picture over WiFi out of the box. Get your act together OnePlus, and stop gaslighting your customers and pretending this isn't a known issue.

I did. That's why I got a new SIM. When I got off the phone with tech support, I went to the store for a new SIM and the reps in the store told me it wasn't going to fix the problem, but they did it. They were all well aware of this issue, as OnePlus is.

That sounds nutty. For what its worth, I have had VoWifi (wifi calling) on an OP6 using a T-Mobile MVNO since day one (over 1.5 years). So I can send/receive texts, with pics/gifs, from my kitchen (over wifi), where cell reception is poor.

This problem seems to almost exclusively be on the 7 pro 5G McLaren

I was able to fix this just now with my OnePlus 8 Pro. I just had to chat with T-Mobile support. I know it's a different hardware model, but may be worth a shot.

What did you do to get your 8 pro resolved? I am having the same problem and would like to get some resolution to it.

Would also like to know what you did. Having same issue on OnePlus 8 pro on T-mo. Have tried different apps and resetting APN. It's not consistently broken (sometimes messages come through/go out while on WiFi) but every time I disconnect WiFi and download the MMS/resend the MMS it works.
