Thank you to everyone who participated in the 100 OxygenOS Delights Scavenger Hunt. As promised, here is a feature we're currently working on.

OnePlus has always paid great attention to user's charging experience and battery health. We brought Dash charging technology equipped in OnePlus 3 and then provided the latest Warp 30T flash charger supporting charging speed and temperature control as well as the feature of playing while charging.

Recently, we have been working on a new feature named Optimized Charging, which is designed to defer the battery drain rate optimally without affecting the user experience.

    What is Optimized Charging

The battery will be charged to 80% initially and suspend temporarily by using our “user sleep cycle detection” function. Your phone will start charging 100 minutes before your daily wake up time, first alarm or first event to 100% level.

This means it will stay at around 80% for most of the night, even though it is connected to the charger the whole time. The OnePlus will then finish charging and should hit 100% just as you take it off the charger to get on with your day. After a few weeks, it will learn that you consistently wake up and take your OnePlus off charge at 8 AM, for example.

    How to use it

Open the setting app->tap Battery->turn on Optimized Charging to enable the feature, the phone will learn your daily routine and collect relevant data (which is stored on-device only).

When optimized charging is on active you can see this on the Battery icon. And a muted notification will be displayed in the drop-down notification to help users understand this state and to provide a toggle to end this state (resume charging). If you want your phone to charge to 100% immediately, you can disable Optimized Charging by tapping the "Continue Charging" button in the drop-down notification.

What about Charging experience in the future

In the future, we will continue to improve OnePlus' in-depth sleep detection capability in unconventional sleep times, such as staying up late on weekends, recognition when changing time zones, etc. We hope to optimize your charging experience on and on.

As always, if you have any questions and suggestions about our products, please feel free to get back to us by attaching your feedback in this post or via the Community app. We are always in relentless pursuit of better products!

    Never Settle.

There are studies that show that you should only charge your phone to around 80% and that will extend your batterie life around 200% (it wont take to much damage from charging). Is there a option to only keep it at 80% so when you wake up its at 80 and not 100?

Very nice. Looking forward to this feature. Will it also be back-ported to older devices? This charging method seems independent of the hardware. The kernel handles how much the battery is full, if I remember correctly. So it'd be logical if it will be back-ported to older OnePlus devices (until the 6(T) for example).

There are more things behind battery life than just that.

ngl,I didnt read tese articles, but as I gott recommended by /r/oneplus I use the app "AccuBattery" that rings an alarm at a custom % of battery. When starting the tutorial of the app it shows this <extend your battery life for 200% if you only charge to 80%.>. And then it gives you the links I posted on the top.

Just to say I dont have any deep knowledge of that topic just some basic stuff

My point was that never fully charge has side effects too. For instance the background optimization. Loosing out on that will cause extra drain, give poor performance and more partial charges and additional tear and wear of the charger port. It's a little bit like whatever you do you are always loosing something. Even the screen gets worse over time.

When can we expect to have this available? Bought a 7 Pro last month and love it, and this would be perfect as I've been unplugging my phone before going to bed to make sure it doesn't spend the entire night charging needlessly.

This is a feature that is long overdue! To be honest this should be implemented in a hardware capacity as well, individual cell regulation and health of the battery overall would benefit.

i suggest that you make it possible for the user to put their desired time for having 100% charge.

this is because sometimes we doesnt charge our phone during night time/sleep only.

So for example I started charging at 1pm and wanted it to be fully charged at 5pm. that would be cool.

Just imagining that i dont have to worry about overcharging is a bliss.
Thanks OnePlus team for the effort. Good luck and all the best !

    VERY cool! :)

One more reason I cannot wait for either the 7Pro 8/256 to come back in stock, or for the new 8's to come out.

I'm tired of working on an LG V20 with a dying battery! :)
