It's currently beta tested. As far as I know only 7 series so far. Upcoming beta for 7T series should have it too. Probably turning up on older devices evtually too

If you care about having the phone optimized you need 100% every once and then. Failing that will lead to additional drain.
Use your phone and be happy.

Some worry too much and disconnect at 80% like their life depended on it... At the same time they gladly discharge to 0%...

How about the phone charges normally untill 100% then stops the charging and all network traffic, etc with the option to put apps on an urgent list that will let you still get uncoming notification or calls through. Until you unplug it after you wake up it won't discharge more than 5% if management is done right.

It would erase the problem with unexpected events before your scheduled wakeup.

If you use my idea, I want to be in the credits ;)

I'm running the beta and have Optimised Charging switched on but it doesn't seem to activate. Is it dependent on using the OP charger?

If you set an awake alarm it does not seem to matter what charger (think I've seen it in the notification logs even on 3rd party charger). When and how often it kicks in without an alarm I don't know. In those cases it would need to learn your patterns first

    @Gary C.

does the oneplus 7 pro battery have a BMS standby function where when the battery is at 100% it switches from drawing from the battery backup to the outlet in which it is plugged in?

if that's truly the case, i'm not sure how useful this battery optimization thing will be. you don't really need it if the device is smart enough to switch from battery backup to outlet to keep it from cycling at full charge.

a battery is under high stress if its fully charged (~4.2 - 4.3v)

letting battery be at 100% for +6 hours at high voltage will degrade battery faster, however with this new charging mechanism, battery at ~80% is going to be at ~4.0 - 4.1v
more on "safer" side, and the last 20% will be charged right before you start using it. because in ~6hours after unplug from 100% charge will for most people make their batteries go below 80% charge, the less battery is staying at full charge is better for the cells.

BMS kicks in if device is in 100%.

Optimized charging kicks in based on your daily doutine pattern (what time u unlock mostly, unplug from charger, start use it, move around, alarm kicks in).

I hope this answered your question.

That's the thing with bms in that the battery will no longer be under load. Energy draw would come from the outlet instead of the battery.

but when BMS kicks in at 100%, your battery remains 100% entire night +6hours, meaning your battery will be put onto stress at 100%.

but with this charging mechanism, the battery WONT stay too long at 100%.

    still not understanding?
