Can you boot on a custom recovery by using Fastboot?

fastboot boot your "name of recovery.img is the command. Do you get any errors doing this?

No. I can't any more. And when I flash with fastboot, although successful, but cannot reboot into it! I keep getting the "Simple Recovery"and of course still with no Root.

    Hi,

But can you use the command "fastboot boot (phils)recovery.img"? (you have to do this command from the folder where you have recovery.img, or show the route to it in the command)

In that case you dont need to install a custom recovery, you just use fastboot to boot into a temporary custom recovery. I trying to figure out what is possible for you, if you can boot to a custom recovery with that command, can you bypass normal fastboot to install a recovery zip from the fastbooted img recovery perhaps ?

I know and I use the boot command all the time instead of installing a custom recovery so that OTA stays intact, but after the latest OTA, cannot do it anymore!!

OK. I only asked because I've heard people use this trick on other phones.

I should reflash bootloader and recovery from Official files, and put a question on XDA under Q/A if that didn't help. I imagine there is more people having the same trouble out there.

    Good luck!

This is normal. As of the 30O update, they fixed a major flaw in the bootloader that allowed you to boot custom recoveries without unlocking it. You'll have to unlock your bootloader if you want to boot or flash a custom recovery now.

You probably left the 'Update CM Recovery' option enabled when you updated. That locks the bootloader and installs CM's recovery. When you boot into bootloader, what does your computer say when you type "fastboot oem device-info"?

Hey guys, i'm having the same problem. I've unlocked the bootloader 2 OTA back and I didn't uncheck the Update CM Recovery.

Now I can't install TWRP. I'm having the same problem, fastboot apparently finished succesfully but the Cyanogen Recovery is still there.

target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
    sending 'recovery' (12588 KB)...
    OKAY [ 0.417s]
    writing 'recovery'...
    OKAY [ 0.201s]
    finished. total time: 0.621s

    fastboot oem device-info says :
    ...
    (bootloader) Device tampered: true
    (bootloader) Device unlocked: true
    (bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
    OKAY [ 0.015s]
    finished. total time: 0.016s

Any advice on how to fix this? Thank you

I am in the same boat as legolas but I am unable to fully boot as im stuck at the CM bootscreen so I can't disable Update CM recovery. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed? I really just want to get my phone to a state where i can get into twrp and do a nandroid restore.
    Thanks in advance!

I am used to my old phone and needing to hold the button longer to get into recovery. I read someone said to let go quickly after the OPO logo comes up and that got me into twrp after i fastboot flashed recovery.

So this is the first time I've flashed or rooted something. Device is already unlocked, i typed those things to flash TWRP (2.8.5.1-bacon)

    "fastboot devices"
    "fastboot erase recovery"
    "fastboot flash recovery filename.img"
    "fastboot reboot"

But when I reboot it into recovery, the stock CM recovery menu appears

(sry for my bad english, and yes I am very new)

    Please!

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone! :) Unchecking Update Recovery works! Peace! :)
