I'm trying to figure out if its worth buying the 256GB or is it a waste of money, cos it would take so long to fill / backup.
I can work out the theoretical transfer speeds of USB and WiFi which are about 35MB/sec for USB2 (something about dash charge limits it to USB2) and 176MB/sec for 802.11ac 2x2Mimo. But the link between the router and the client is gonna be capped at 1Gbps, so that becomes 120MB/s.
In the 256GB OP6 the SSD chip has a data transfer speed of 850MB/s read, write speed is 255 MB/s. So the limit will probably USB/WiFi speed.
So lets say at best, half of 802.11ac speed which is 60MB/s. So it would take 256,000/60 seconds to transfer the entire storage, which equals 24,266 seconds or just over 71 minutes. Over USB the best speed will again be half maximum speed so 256,000/18 seconds which equals 14,222 seconds or 3hours 57mins.
And those speeds are before the OS and firewalls get in the way.
Is anyone able to do a timed test to prove this maths wrong?
BTW current Sandisk 128GB uSD cards have 100MB/sec read speeds, which I have achieved in a USB3 card reader. So if Oneplus installed uSD slots in the phones, they wouldn't be the bottleneck its been claimed it is.
