T-MOBILE 7T Pro 5G USA OTA 10.0.19HD61CB via OnePlus Community App

  1. damiansixx , via OnePlus Community App , Jan 17, 2020 :
I received the notification for the new OTA update 10.0.19 HD61CB but every time that I try it fails to install. I have the message "Upgrade couldn't install, Installation problem" . Bootloader is locked, stock room, no root. I wiped the device twice with no luck. Any one knows why is this happening? Any solution ???

Did you at any point do a full or master erase? Like it says here?
    https://www.t-mobile.com/support/devices/android/oneplus-7t-pro-5g/device-resets-oneplus-7t-pro-5g
If so, you killed your 'reserve.img' which lives on /data/reserve/reserve.img, which is required for OTAs
    to work properly.

You can check by doing `adb shell ls /data/reserve/` and `adb logcat | grep -C4 --color update_e`
while attempting. If you get something along the lines of a sha256 hash error for reserve, then
yeah, you're screwed until OnePlus or T-Mobile fixes it.

You too hmm? I'm having the same exact issue on mine! Man I hope Oneplus/ T-Mobile give us a full recovery image so we can fix this.

Real good idea OnePlus, sticking what amounts to a piece of 'system32' inside the user directory.
Note to everyone reading this: This issue can happen without unlocking your bootloader (this is
thought to immediately cause this issue, btw), rooting, or doing anything other than what should be
a normal and safe action: wiping your userdata.

Well yeah. its the master reset which broke this. Without intervention from OnePlus it cannot be fixed.
The only way you can back this file up is with root access, and the only way to get root access (now)
is to unlock the bootloader and boot a rooted image, but unlocking wipes all userdata, which is why
    the problem exists.

Unbelievable. Sometimes I think those carriers developers are a bunch of idiots. How come I can't perform a basic task like an a simple update .!!!!

ah, wait. try `adb shell ls /data/reserve/reserve.img`. The permissions are quite restrictive,
but you should at least be able to do that, I think.

The McLaren 5G is a good team but it is a big disappointment because if we are going to depend on T-Mobile we will not have constant updates to address all the problems that it has, T-Mobile is only interested in selling and not that customers are satisfied with the products, ONEPLUS should do something about this or make a ROM without T-Mobile for which we buy the equipment at regular expense

Honestly its a stupid design choice all around. Putting a filesystem required for OTA updates inside
a partition that users are regularly told to erase as part of troubleshooting/repair is about as dumb
as it gets. They could have very easily incorporated the contents of reserve.img into the product
partition, and this would not be an issue whatsoever.

[UPDATE] I talked today with T-MOBILE costumer service and explained to them the issue. I told them that I wiped twice the phone and still couldn't update the last firmware. Since the phone has manufacturer warranty they are going to replace the unit. You guys should try the same.

Cool. I would hold off on unlocking until OnePlus gets their crap together (get the unlock tokens and
stuff ready tho), as you'll end right back where you are.

Hope so. One of them needs to fix it, and both blame the other.

I have a question. can this happen even if you do a software reset meaning of factory reset from the software settings. not a factory reset a full reset from the bootloader. took the update that came out on January 16th 10.0.19 but since there's no newer updates on that one I can't tell if I'm going to go get an update. I need to factory reset in order to get my battery life to be better which it has.
