Seeing as the topic states T-Mobile in the topic title, I would go ask then as they control their own updates not OnePlus.

I did ask T-Mobile. They said that their updates come from OnePlus. Do you have different info?

All carrier branded phones are usually updated by the carrier as they add their own stuff to the updates.

Link above is from T-Mobiles own support page.

The only way you would get updates from OnePlus is if you unlocked your phone and installed the international version of Oxygen OS.

not hard at all, it takes a week to get the bootloader unlock file from OnePlus, and you have to sim unlock the phone first before you can unlock the bootloader, if your interested I can explain further. No cons so far.

you are only half right, phone updates do come from the manufacturer however the manufacturer sends the completed update to the carrier who didn't ads their tweaks and then sends it out. the OnePlus 7t pro 5G McLaren a hotfix with December security update January 16th in order to fix the GPS 2 with that phone. but they had to get the update fixed from OnePlus and 1 + then some that they back to send out. so actually one plus is one who updates and fixes the phone for all their devices and just sends the final update back to T-Mobile to send out. I have talked to several T-Mobile technicians as well as OnePlus technicians we have all confirmed that one plus is wanted does the updating and they send the final version to T-Mobile in order to send it out.

This guide will give you step by step directions on how to unlock the bootloader. Make sure your 100 percent certain you want to do this. Once you unlock your bootloader it will force a full system wipe, YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA and there's a BUG that will NOT ALLOW YOU TO INSTALL ANY FUTURE SYSTEM UPDATES. It deletes a critical file that is required to allow system updates to install. I speak from experience, it happend to me, this is my second 7T from T-Mobile. I even created a thread about not being able to update. The T-Mobile ROM includes this bug, the Global ROM Does NOT. So only unlock your bootloader If your 100 percent flashing the global ROM.

You must be SIM unlocked first. Guide doesn't tell you how to do that.

If you say there's no cons, but then say there's a bug that won't allow the phone to update, it is a bit confusing. Can you clarify?

Its a bug in the T-Mobile ROM. Not in the global ROM.

I'm guessing T-Mobile just isn't going to fix the bug? I still can't install the update. I guess I'll have to do the bootloader thing with the global boot.

Just want to make sure I'm correct in my thinking. I can't download updates from Oneplus 7t T-Mobile version with out unlocking and going to global Rom... That would explain why I can't do local upgrade on my phone.

Yeah, If you unlocked the bootloader you can no longer update the phone with the "TMobile" updates. You need to switch over to the global ROM to update.
