    ■ Bought a new keyboard for your pc?
    ■ Installed a new keyboard app for your phone?

    Throw them away!
    Give them to me! 😏

It's time to ditch your modern standards and rediscover this ancient jewel.

    What is T9?
So far in the thread it may look like I'm overrating an obsolete feature, but let me explain why that's (just maybe) not the case. 😎

Firstly, some of you might be confused as to why I'm even talking about a painfully slow way of typing: well, you might be thinking of something else.

What comes to mind for most people is Multitap ABC, the method that requires you to press a key multiple times, meaning that simply typing the word "nice", would require pressing the following sequence:
    6644422233

Not exactly something I'd be willing to do every day. 😏

T9 was introduced in the 1990s, (so it's not that old if you use @dsmonteiro's age as a scale 😛) to fix exactly that. It predicts what you're typing based on words usage and user behaviour, making for a faster writing experience (yes, I'm serious).

But, why is it so cool now?
    Simple!
You might not know this, but the dialer on your phone (except if it's an iPhone, because Apple can't be bothered😤) has T9 built into it, so that no matter if you're searching for a number or a contact's name, you'll only have to use the phone app. 😁

Although I don't call much nowdays, I find it a useful feature that most people don't even know about.
    But now the question is:

    How well do you T9?
Just like @camohan recently challenged you to test your fast-typing skills, I dare you to try a T9 keyboard for a bit.
Actually, try to only use a T9 keyboard and see how long you can last! 😏

You can use an online emulator or a dedicated app (paid) if you're on Android.

I only managed to last a few minutes (don't judge me😳). Let's see if you can do better!

Kudos if you reply to this thread using only a T9 keyboard. 😉

Just try it out! You'll have more pain fun than you might expect!

    Thanks for reading and 629 843 36723 23 9484 968!

I remember T9 used to be my preference even after the entry of blackberry style qwerty phones.

    I fully agree.
I think it came down to practicality: I'd rather move between 9 large keys than a crammed keypad. 🙂

😅 There are never enough new old ways to rick roll people and you can bet that I will find all of them. 😁

    Thank you! I means a lot. 😊😄

    Yes. 😂
And then you would stumble upon one of those letters which you never remember where they're placed.

Another great thing back in the T9 era on Nokia phones, was when you could play Snake using two buttons only instead of four :p

I actually miss the physical T9 keys. I used to type correctly even without looking at the phone.
These days the damn autocorrect on smartphones is messing up too much.

I see you're a man of culture as well 😜

    True.
Especially when the keyboard is in multilingual mode. It just doesn't know when to switch.
