We will only be able to take control back when enough people care about
control.
I remember the old Internet too, and I know it is a huge tidal wave, shifting accordingly to the mass-desire of the month. To give users the power over their data, I do think that first users should be educated about their own data.
The Internet is more than this bubble we live in. A lot of users know more than a lot, but others think it’s magic, that the convenience is fueled by angelical corporations that do all this for a charitable algorithm.
Anything is possible, any kind of fight back is attainable. But our data is being controlled by companies bigger than we know; what a lot feed the machine in a numbness bulk is being worked with tweezers, so we can be greeted with some of that good old convenience.
It’s possible but it will never be easy, as I suspect a lot of Internet users do not want that control. The problem is not just the present, but the future if we continue with the “I am too cool to care, data is already something I have lost, so yolo” attitude.
Thank you for the good read,
@Mr. BG - and for the site that I didn't know. Two recommendations for the thread: perhaps watch
"The Social Dilemma" on Netflix and
this video with Tim Cook talking about privacy. I know it's Apple and I do know there's a lot of marketing there, but perhaps there's some truth to it.
