    Hello everyone,

About one week ago, we released the Oxygen OS 9.5.7 OTA for OnePlus 7 Pro with several significant optimizations on the camera. We believe most of you have used it for days and hope everyone has joyful and confident shootings.

Together with the release, we conducted a camera blind test to help us better understand users' preference for further camera optimizations. So far, we've received over 3000 responses to the blind test, which is an amazing amount. As always, we are truly inspired by your willingness to help us improve. All this data will be instrumental in showcasing the mass preference in terms of photo quality and tuning. Thanks for your feedback.

To be transparent, we reveal the data here and uploaded all the original photos HERE for those who want to better follow up. Some of the groups show very close vote to every phone while others show great differences. More than finding a winner, the results are great first-hand material for our camera team to understand what we got right and where to seek improvements for each scene.

Thanks again, to your online feedback. We also look forward to our Camera Open Ears Forum in Amsterdam. We will keep working hard to better meet our community's expectation to a great camera. We welcome you to report any camera issues or suggestions via the Feedback Tool on our community app.

    Never Settle.

We want results similar to pixel photos. Please take pixel photos as reference.

The last update really addressed the rear cameras. I think the front camera's processing should be taken a look at as well, the skin smoothening is too prominent even whilst having beauty mode disabled. Pictures taken on WhatsApp come out with more natural detail than the ones shot on the OnePlus Camera app.

Did you understand what I suggested? S10 results are better in this survey. But in reality pixel photos are better than S10 in most scenarios. Hence my above request for taking pixel pictures as reference for improving op camera processing.

That's your preference. The survey says, many prefer S10.
So, why should they do it the needs of single person when compared to the needs of 100s?

It isn't a single opinion. Try checking out some comparisons of S10 vs pixel and majority will agree pixel photos are better. This is a blind test and we have 4 to choose from, so results vary.

That's the point of being a blind test. People aren't biased with the name. The facts and number matters. Not random opinions.

I took the time answering the the blind test at the time. What I focused on was maintaining the details - not only regarding sharpness. I've taken hundreds of shots with both the OnePlus camera on 9.5.7 and comparing them with the same shots taken with a port of Google camera app. In real life it's pretty apparent that the Google camera app manages to maintain pixel level clarity where the OnePlus camera blurs minor detail.

Also the HDR mode on the OP camera is really harsh on dark areas and shadows - often crushing them to near flat black. I know at first glance it makes the image appear more striking but when you brighten up the shadows in an editor afterwards the image seems even more striking as there still are lots of depth in the shadows but there's also detail there.

It also feels that the multiple exposures taken in HDR on OP camera have some time between them making the final image have softer edges and even some mild haloing. Comparing this to the Google camera port the Gcam for some reason manages to produce sharp images even when taken in a hurry and of a slightly moving object.

As for the focus the Gcam app seem supreme - not only are the images sharper but they appear to have deeper zone of depth. How that can be with the same lens I have no idea :) Maybe it's an illusion resulted by the lack of issues mentioned before.

The harsh blacks/shadows issue is very apparent in the ultrawide shots as well while the 3x zoom photos have much flatter images where the shadows appear much more natural.

Maybe give the users a few settings to adjust - saturation (vivid, neutral etc.), pop (HDR mode effect, shadow detail) and noise reduction?

In case anyone at OnePlus ( @Jimmy Z. ) is interested I have a lot of example photos taken back to back with the OnePlus camera and Google camera port exhibiting the focus, shadow detail and color issues. If anything the Gcam samples prove that the HW in the OnePlus 7 pro is very capable - just the OnePlus camera needs a bit more finesse.
