    Dear fellow Netflixers,
After the previous update I hope all of you are having good time streaming through the vast collection of Movies and Series on the Netflix. Watching those UHD and Dolby Vision Titles on the OnePlus TV has been a pleasure.

If you have observed, most of the Over The Top (OTT) apps like Youtube, Hotstar, provide an option to change the quality/resolution of the specific video while streaming, but Netflix doesn't give that option directly on the video instead it's hidden inside the Account Settings.

Netflix by default sets the Video quality as Auto (Best optimized quality for the available Internet Speed). This setting might be suitable for users who have slow internet speeds and let Netflix decide the optimized quality for stutter free playback. But for users who have limited bandwidth or users who want to always enjoy the streaming in the highest quality available, this default setting might not be suitable.

Before explaining how to access and set the quality, here are few things to know.
    • The option to control the Playback video quality for Netflix on Android TV can be changed only from a Browser.
    • There are total of 4 options in the Playback Quality. Auto, Low, Medium and High. Auto would be the default selected option. Select Medium if you have limited bandwidth and would want to optimize between the playback quality and data usage. Select High if you always want the best available video quality for the title. • Set the Playback quality suitable for your Internet Speeds. Keeping the highest quality with slow speeds (< 20 MBPS) would result in unpleasant playback experience.
    • The playback quality is specific to each profile in Netflix. If you want to set a Playback quality in all the profiles, it has to be done manually in all profiles.
    • The 4K video playback in Netflix is available only for Premium Plans of 799/- and above. So do check if you have Premium plan that supports 4k/UHD. If you have support for 4K, you would find the below logo in the Account Settings on the Browser. Screenshot_1.png
    • Once you set a particular playback quality through browser, the same will be applicable for all the other platforms too (Desktop/Laptop, Browser, FireStick etc) except for mobile devices.

    Procedure to Set Video Quality
    1. Open browser on a Desktop/Laptop or mobile and go to https://www.netflix.com/in/login
    2. Sign into your account and select the Profile you want to change the Playback Quality
    3. Click the Account Avatar on the top right corner of the Home Page and select Account.

    4. The account page shows all the details of the Plan, payment etc. Select the "Playback Settings".

    5. Select the required quality and click on save.

    6. Go back to your OnePlus TV and restart the Netflix App to start streaming with your settings.

    Procedure to View Video Resolution
This above process has only solved the first part of the problem. To set the video Quality. Now, how to make sure that the video is infact playing at the required or the best available quality. Netflix doesn't show any info about the playback quality of the video. You might be thinking that you are watching a UHD title but due to the speeds Netflix decided to show you it in FHD.

For Windows and Mac OS devices, there are shortcut keys to access the info. Similarly for an Android TV/box there's a shortcut too. It's F4 (Function Key).

Now you might be wondering, how to call a F4 key on an Android TV. There are two ways to activate it.
    Method 1:
    1. Connect a Bluetooth Keyboard to the TV from Settings< Remotes & Accessories < Accessories
    2. While watching any video on Netflix, just press F4 on the Keyboard and you would get the Video Stats.
    3. Press the same key for turning off the Stats.

If you do not have a Bluetooth keyboard or do not want to always connect a Bluetooth keyboard just for this purpose, follow this
    Method 2:
    1. Install these Apps " NextApp Technical Keyboard" and "Android TV Remote Control" on your Android Phone.
    2. Open "NextApp Technical Keyboard" and select it as default Keyboard by following the instructions in the App.
    3. While watching Netflix Open "Android TV Remote Control" and select the "OnePlus TV".
    4. Enter the code shown on the OnePlus TV into the Remote App to control the TV.
    5. Once connected, click the Keyboard Icon on the top right Corner of the "Android TV Remote Control" app.
    6. Now the NextApp Technical Keyboard pops up, select the Fn key located in the bottom row.
    7. F4 key should be visible on the top row. Click it and the Video stats would be Visible.

Is there any way to fit the Netflix content to the whole TV screen?. Some series are already available in full screen but most movies has the dark border.

No there isn't. Aspect ratio control is only limited to HDMI inputs.

Ahh..that's sad even Dolby vision contents can't watch in full screen. Hope Netflix bring some options to control the aspect ratio in future.

TV can provide that feature like many TVs have "A Zoom Feature". I am not sure why it's not implemented though.

Then can you request TV software team about this. It's definitely a must need feature for big TV screens.

Well. Somehow I triggered this by using the OnePlus remote itself. But after restarting the app, it was not there.

I really don't know what triggered it.
